ACCESS TO CARE (ATC)

These services are available to adults or youth in Spokane County who are struggling to get or stay connected with healthcare providers. Work one-on-one with individuals to find dental care, physical health care, and substance use treatment providers that are most accessible for the individual. This team works as a healthcare guide, helping to educate, advocate, and motivate individuals to meet their specific healthcare goals.

The Mental Health Engagement Specialist (MHES) in Access to Care (ATC) provides assistance and support to clients by working collaboratively with ATC providers, Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) and community service providers. The MHES in ATC will not carry a caseload and will provide behavioral health services within their scope of practice. The MHES additionally provides backup and response services for unplanned client needs as well as management of incoming client referrals. Assistance and support include but is not limited to engagement, supportive listening, psychoeducation, crisis and risk assessment, prevention and intervention, resource education and referral and short term follow up with individuals of all ages in office or community-based settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
  • Provide periodic, trauma informed, person centered counseling utilizing evidence-based practice within this scope of practice.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with; clinician, administrative and support staff, community partners, clients, and family/natural supports.
  • Maintain client records and all other required documentation in a timely and confidential manner, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Provide services and support to clients prior to, or directly after their intake assessment.
  • Travel within the Spokane community to pre-screen clients.
  • Conduct risk assessments, develop and implement safety plans and provide crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed, including facilitating access to inpatient facilities for behavioral health care.
  • Complete and review suicide and homicide risk assessments and when risk is indicted, staff with supervisor to determine the level of response needed to maintain the safety of the client or others and implement safety plans and interventions.
  • Provide clients with care coordination services including assist clients in identifying and accessing resources, provide housing assistance when appropriate and necessary.
  • Coordinate with hospital-based referral sources to receive referrals for hospitalized clients. Review the referral to determine if there is a need for a supervisor to determine client appropriateness due to violence or substance use, and if so, forward the referral to a supervisor.
  • Create a new chart for clients referred by hospitals who do not have a client chart and schedule the client for an intake. Once a chart is created or determined to already be in place, open the ATC admission and referral, and schedule the intake.
  • Assist in facilitating outreach appointments to hospitals by setting up the chart for the intake, including opening the admission, scheduling the appointment, and preparing the needed paperwork for the outreach clinician.
  • Coordinate referral outcomes with hospital discharge planners by either scheduling the intake assessment or communicating that our recommendation is for a higher level of care.
  • Monitor High Risk Tracking sheet for clients in need of intake and provide follow up support as needed, including periodic risk assessments when able, scheduling intake appointments, or determining that the person is no longer in need of our services.
  • Provide referrals to clients who need other care such as SUD referrals, referrals to FBH Care Navigators, or other resources as needed and appropriate.
  • Assist clients with filling out intake paperwork as needed.
  • Coordinate client care with the Peer Support Specialist for working with clients in the lobby, calling clients to try to engage then in getting their intake, and otherwise providing support as needed.
  • Assist clients in preparing for zoom intakes. This may include walking them through the zoom process, ensuring they are able to do zoom, or completing some intake paperwork over zoom.
  • Participate in supervision.
  • Operate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field from and accredited college or university.
  • Must submit for an Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED:
  • One year experience working with people with psychiatric impairment.
  • Experience with crisis intervention.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Washington Administrative Codes and statutes pertaining to the treatment and delivery of mental health services.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to send and receive oral and written messages, in a clear, positive, prompt, and appropriate manner, while maintaining customer confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply active listening techniques conveying respect, professionalism, engagement skills, positive attitude, and empathy.
  • Must have vehicle, active driver's license, insurance and be willing to use personal vehicle for work.

  • Blood-borne Pathogen Category III - No predictable exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt): $25.89- $31.53*

*All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus the starting pay is $25.89 per hour.
