Staff Accountant

Reports to: Director of Finance

Basic Job Summary

United Way of Acadiana is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Director of Finance in managing the organization's financial activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities:

* Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets.
* Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
* Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, including recording invoices and processing payments.
* Prepare and submit financial documents, such as grant reports, to funding agencies and donors.
* Assist in the annual audit process by providing necessary documentation and support.
* Monitor and track expenses, ensuring accuracy and compliance with budget requirements.
* Perform monthly bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
* Assist in preparing and filing tax returns and compliance reports.
* Provide support in financial planning and analysis to help inform decision-making.
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial information is accurately recorded and reported.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
* 2+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
* Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
* Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and regulations, including GAAP.
* Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a plus.
