Acts as a journeyman locksmith in the install, repair, and service of mechanical, electrical, and computerized locking devices, including disassembling, reassembling locks, installing and maintaining locking systems, maintaining records of locks and keys and trains and assist other maintenance staff.

Install new locks; repairs existing locks and locking devices; duplicates keys; picks locks; changes combinations; and replaces worn parts as needed.

Maintains records of locks and keys and performs preventative maintenance on locks and locksets.

Installs push bars and doorknobs and use and maintain power tools.

Trains, instructs and assists other staff with lock repair and maintenance; maintains key making machine and ensures adequate supplies and equipment are on hand, including keeping related records.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program and, three (3) years' experience as a journeyman locksmith.

Special Note: One (1) year of work related experience can be substituted for one (1) year of formal training or any combination of the two.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Successful completion of an Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) training course. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record, and pass a security clearance check. Must be able to plan keyways for buildings.

Juvenile Department:
"Position requires working with juveniles who may have committed dangerous/aggressive acts; should possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment."

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Requires the ability to climb ladders and lift weights in excess of 50 lbs. assisted. Ability to withstand prolonged sitting, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, stretching, lifting and climbing ladders. Must be able to work in varying conditions, surroundings and weather conditions. May be subject to changes in shift schedules and work locations.
