Position Summary

Works under the general supervision of a Chief Inspector to supervise field inspectors, review permits for approval, and performs field inspections when required. Acts as a liaison between the Chief Inspector and Field Inspectors.

Pay Grade: 54

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

100% -

1. Five (5) years' experience in the building construction industry of which three (3) years' experience must be supervising others in the plumbing industry; AND

2. High school diploma or possess a GED; OR

3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.

4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Organizes daily work and reviews and approves permits for processing.

2. Investigates complaints requiring supervisor approval for final determination regarding code compliance.

3. Monitors field inspectors to ensure department compliance standards and safety.

4. Reviews plans and confer with the Plans Examiner when required for Code Compliance.

5. Acts in the absence of the Chief Inspector.

6. Assists the Chief Inspector in all training needs of staff.

7. Completes and submits inspector performance reviews.

8. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

KSAs -

1. Thorough understanding and knowledge of applicable related codes and ordinances.

2. Ability to organize, discipline, lead, and direct field inspectors.

3. Ability to make decisions and tactfully interact with disgruntled customers.

4. Ability to train inspectors when required.

5. Ability to perform field inspections and investigations when required.

6. Skilled in general computer usage and experience.

Physical Requirements

1. Must possess the physical dexterity to access all areas during construction including, but not limited to bending, stooping, climbing ladders, assessing attics, and walking on uneven terrain.

2. Must be able to be exposed to areas under construction.

Special Requirements

1. Must have a valid Tennessee "Class D" driver's license or secure one upon the date of employment.

2. Must currently hold a Journeyman Plumbing License and have held for a minimum of five (5) years.
