Location: We support US flexible working arrangements in the contiguous 48 states, however for this position we require the successful candidate to work from our Portland, ME office on a regular basis.

The opportunity:

The AV Technician provides professional AV support for live in-person, virtual and hybrid corporate meetings and events at Sun Life. The Technician leads business partners to the best possible solutions and ensures the services are delivered at a high-quality standard and professional caliber, providing direction to team members and vendor partners as required.

The Technician is responsible for delivering audio-visual services required for on-site meetings and events as well as supporting virtual events for Sun Life business groups and senior leadership teams. AV equipment includes all audio equipment (digital mixers, wireless mics), video (projectors, switchers, video conferencing units, cameras, various sources), lighting (studio lighting, theatrical lighting) as well as staging, rigging etc. Virtual event services include streamed live and recorded events on a wide range of platforms as well as Hybrid events with simultaneous live and in person components.

This in-office role is onsite every day, based at our Portland, ME location as well as supports our other US sites and event activities on occasion. The Technician reports to the Senior Manager, AV Services (People Manager) and receives support and direction from our Senior AV Technicians and the Senior Manager, Broadcast Services. The Technician works closely with members of the Broadcast & Event Services North American technician team, as well as the Producing, Multimedia and Operations teams in the delivery of our overall department initiatives.

How you will contribute:

* Hands-on planning with our business partners to recommend appropriate virtual platforms, audio-visual and staging solutions, and the rehearsal and event delivery of these planned services to ensure the seamless execution of the event agenda


* Technical operation of event platforms, broadcast and video equipment and integrations, multi-channel systems and video editing capabilities, as well as the ability to learn new equipment, systems and platforms


* Demonstrate flexible, solution focused customer service skills to quickly adapt, resolve and trouble-shoot technical problems or late-breaking customer needs


* Contribute to systems and complete tasks for event reporting, equipment and inventory resourcing to department standards


* Adhere to company policies and industry best practices for the technical processes, pre, during and post-events


* Commitment to continuous improvement with the aim of making processes as efficient as possible, while delivering quality results



What you will bring with you

* You have 2+ years of technical expertise in a corporate event environment and professional technical training


* You're a well-accomplished event technician with honed skills and track record of troubleshooting under pressure, knowledgeable with a wide range of media, platforms and venues, regularly working in close collaboration with event planning, and multimedia teams


* You've got experience leading partners, suppliers and teams to deliver high quality work


* You regularly show initiative, as a self-starter you're confident in your abilities and decision-making. You have an excellent track record in fast paced, deadline driven, high-volume and live production environments


* You have an exceptional attention to detail


* You have a passion for corporate event experiences, with your finger on the pulse of the latest trends and techniques


* You have knowledge of industry-related equipment, systems and terminology, and professional abilities. This may include knowledge of AV and broadcast systems such as video conference hardware & software endpoints, hardware & software video, Virtual Event Platforms, as well as expertise in the MS Office Suite, Adobe creative Suite. Demonstrable intuitiveness and ability to adapt and learn a wide range of production systems, equipment platforms and integrations as technology evolves


* You build strong business relationships with stakeholders, vendors, staff, and team members; you've got a strong ability to negotiate and resolve issues smoothly and effectively


* You're adaptable, resilient, adjusts quickly, maintains effectiveness throughout periods of change, exhibiting tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to lead the team through change and you maintain your effectiveness throughout periods of change and be comfortable with ambiguity


* Industry certifications are an asset


* Involvement in industry-related associations


* Up to 20% travel may be required.


* Must possess valid Driver's license and have access to a vehicle.
