ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Rotating schedule; either 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., and other shifts assigned. Must be able to work holidays, weekends and is on call 24 hours.

Responsibilities

Perform animal control work for the City of Corpus Christi. The work involves patrolling assigned areas of the city to enforce animal control ordinances and related laws, rules and regulations. Carry out daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations. Perform technical and routine animal care and related duties at the city's animal shelter. The work involves giving vaccinations, drawing blood, examining animals and documenting/data entry. Cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining animal kennel areas. Performing related shelter duties.

Enforce City and State animal regulations including, but not limited to, cruelty to animals, dangerous/vicious animals, and animal bites, including dogs, cats, livestock and fowl. Patrol assigned areas, contain and pick-up stray, sick/injured, feral, and/or unwanted and captured domestic animals, transporting them to appropriate destination. Perform emergency animal rescue service, emergency night call service, and animal first aid when required. Serve and respond to court and Animal Advisory Board meetings as necessary. Represents City at court and Animal Advisory Board hearings. Maintain required telecommunications/dispatch contact. Set traps to capture evasive domestic animals. Educate the public on proper animal care, wildlife problems, and animal control regulations. Issue warnings/citations to animal owners found in violation of animal regulations. Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records. Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance. Destroy by humane euthanasia animals in a safe humane manner as authorized by supervisor. Respond to and investigates complaints from citizens concerning domestic animals. Communicate and problem solve in the highest professional manner with citizens, businesses, rescues, law enforcement, ordinance enforcement, and all other persons. Receive, examine and vaccinate animals. Administers medicines, conducts health exams and administers first-aid when necessary. Maintain and update data files with pertinent information on animal intake, health information on animals received and in the shelter. Handle animals and make determinations regarding their disposition. Take complaints and relay information to animal control officers. Clean kennels, feed animals and perform related housekeeping duties. Perform shelter duties including taking reports from the public, receiving animals brought to the shelter, preparing adoption paperwork, reclaiming animals to their owners, and transporting animals to veterinarians. Decapitate animals for rabies testing. Perform humane education at schools and at shelter. Maintain proper inventory levels of cleaning and other supplies. Inform supervisor when reordering is necessary. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position requires High School or GED with minimum of one (1) of experience. A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered. A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.
