Boston, United States Partners Healthcare System Full time

The Cardiovascular Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School is looking for exceptional candidates to join the laboratory of Paul Yu, MD, PhD. The laboratory pursues a deep cellular and molecular understanding of how dysregulated signaling regulates cell survival and differentiation in congenital and acquired vascular, metabolic, and musculoskeletal diseases. The lab focuses on understanding how intercellular signaling is interpreted in specific contexts to modify wound-healing, inflammation, and regeneration to yield productive or maladaptive tissue remodeling. The lab utilizes novel animal models of disease, chemical probes and reporter systems, as well as computational biology and bioinformatic techniques for analyzing large datasets from human clinical databases. The work has recently led to novel treatments and diagnostic tests that have entered clinical testing. The candidate will be trained in basic science and translational study methods, and potentially work with patients in the context of 1-3 pilot clinical studies. The work lies at the nexus of progenitor cell biology, chemical biology, cardiovascular physiology, and experimental pharmacology.

Key Responsibilities:

* Design, perform and analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments using tools of molecular and cellular biology,
* Collect and analyze clinical data from clinical databases and electronic health records, bioinformatics and statistics, animal models, and animal physiology in order to address fundamental mechanistic questions related to health and disease-related physiology
* Lab administration coordination with respect to maintaining a safe, productive and compliant lab environment

EDUCATION:

* Bachelor's undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Physics

EXPERIENCE:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
* Some experience with tissue culture, and molecular biology is preferred
* Excellent organizational skills

All team members will work with a diverse and experienced team of PhD and MD trained scientists, and will receive training in responsible conduct of research and animal ethics. Team members will be expected to present their findings in local and international scientific meetings, and to contribute as co-authors for publications during their tenure. Previous members have published in journals including Science Translational Medicine, Nature Medicine, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Nature Chemical Biology, and Blood Journal.
