About ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, a campus of ECU Health Medical Center

ECU Health Beaufort Hospital is located in Washington and serves as a campus ECU Health Medical Center, our Level I Trauma Center in Greenville. The 142-bed full-service hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services including medical, surgical, intensive care, emergency, pediatrics and women's services. In addition there is a lab, diagnostic imaging services, physical and respiratory therapy. The facility also features the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, offering leading-edge chemotherapy and radiation therapy, among other cancer services.

Position Summary

The Telemetry Technician is responsible for the monitoring of cardiac rhythms, documentation, and notifying primary nurse of abnormal rhythms. He/she is responsible for desk functions, answering telephone and patient call system, replenishing charts, etc. If certified as a Nursing Assistant, he/she may work in this capacity when the telemetry census is two or less, in absence of scheduled Nursing Assistant. He/she modifies and delivers care that is specific to the age, growth, and level of development of patients including adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

The secretarial duties are an integral part of the nursing unit, being involved in patient care and documentation of patient care. While not directly responsible for care of the patient, the Unit Secretary is responsible for assuring patient care is accomplished. He/she is responsible for all general duties and is the pivot person in communications.

The Telemetry Technician/Unit Secretary is accountable to and evaluated by the Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

Consistently makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment and infection control barriers and devices to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.

Displays attitude, behavior, and language that are professional and considerate of others in work area.

Contacts physician¿s office timely to relay information, make discharge appointments, or assist the nurse in obtaining necessary orders.

Assists with keeping equipment clean and properly stored.

Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.

Demonstrates skills in priority setting.

Participates in unit and hospital activities.

Willingly relieves and floats to other units as assigned by Nurse Manager and/or Nursing Supervisor.

Maintains required licenses/certifications.

Shows evidence of continued professional growth.

Demonstrates knowledge of standard precautions, transmission of infection, and routinely and consistently utilize measures to reduce the spread of bacteria.

Advocates safety for patient, self, and staff. Performs procedures safely and conducts self in accordance with hospital and safety policies and procedures. Recognizes and reports inferior patient care and/or safety hazards.

Changes practice behavior as a result of quality improvement data.

Completes Event Reports correctly with guidance from supervisor.

Demonstrates active participation in Quality Improvement Process.

Recognizes and reports to licensed nurse inappropriate use of abbreviations and drug dose ranges.

Verbalizes Joint Commission patient safety goals.

Fulfills mandatory requirements annually.

Maintains competencies described in initial orientation and annual competency plan.

Fulfills annual education requirements.

Demonstrates an initiative for and willingness to learn new procedures.

Creates a positive learning environment for new team members.

Assists with the orientation of new employees under the guidance of the RN. Provides emotional support during orientation. Functions as a cooperative, active member of the healthcare team, and as a role model for the new employee.

Volunteers to participate in inservice education programs.

Attends 75% of unit staff meetings, and reads and initials remaining 25% of minutes.

Minimum Requirements

Medical terminology course required or demonstrated competency

Completion of an EKG Interpretation course

High School Diploma or equivalent GED

CPR certification - current

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Location: ECU Health Beaufort Hospital - Surgical Unit

Shift: Nights

Hours: 7PM--7AM (Three 12hr shifts/week)

Weekends: 6 weekend shifts in a 6 week scheduling period required
