Requirements:

* Must be enrolled in or have completed a formal training program acceptable to the Idaho Board of Nursing
* Must be registered with or certified by a national organization acceptable to the Idaho Board of Nursing

Responsibilities:

* Assists circulating nurse with patient care.
* Gathers case cart, equipment, etc., for each surgery.
* Wipes down the operating room furniture and spotlights prior to the first surgery of the day as required.
* Prepares the operating room and surgical instruments for surgery.
* Performs sharps, sponge, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse, according to policy.
* Orders and restock supplies in assigned areas.
* Practices proper aseptic techniques.
* Assists circulating nurse with identification and proper care of all specimens., logs specimens into GIS in Pathology office.
* Has age specific knowledge and understanding of standard surgical equipment (i.e., tourniquet, spotlight, suction, cautery, etc.)
* Participates in orientation of new personnel and students.
* Assumes additional work responsibilities to help meet department needs (i.e., call)
* Cooperates with the risk management/nursing Continuous Quality Improvement in preparing reports and follow-up plans.
