Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Administration and Policy

Summary:

  

 This position is in the College of Business and Public Affairs.   It is a full-time, 9-month appointment.   The rank and tenure-status of the position is negotiable based on qualifications.  The area of specialization is open but preference will be given to someone with a PhD in Public Administration or Public Policy or Political Science. A PhD along with an MPA/MPPA degree will be considered. The incumbent will be expected to serve as the MPA Program Coordinator for the new MPA degree program; in addition to teaching a range of traditional Public Administration courses in on ground, synchronous, asynchronous/ hybrid online formats.  Duties and Responsibilities:

 

* The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area department chair and program coordinator; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes.
* Advising students; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the department chair; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a faculty member as outlined in the faculty handbook.
*  Must have some publication and a progressive research agenda.
* Teach at least four (4 undergraduate classes OR 3 graduate courses) per semester.
* Perform other duties as assigned. 

 Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.): 

 

* Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or D.P.A in Political Science, Public Administration or Public Policy doctorate from a regionally accredited university
* Demonstrated ability to undertake research and be committed to excellence in teaching
* The candidate should have not less than 3 years of teaching experience preferably at a four-year degree granting institution
* A record of publication in professional journals or on-going research likely to result in publication in the near future
* Experience advising students on academic and career choices
* A candidate with less than three years teaching experience will be considered with several years of professional non-teaching experience.

 Essential Functions:

* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to teach graduate public administration courses
* The faculty member must have the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization, communicate effectively and possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications/ administration.
* Must be knowledgeable about the use of technology in delivering instructions or have the willingness to learn and master new technologies.
