The Position

In this role, you'll be an active member of a trauma-focused, early childhood day treatment team treating groups of children ages 3-6. A mental health practitioner within our early childhood day treatment program will be an active member of the treatment team, providing onside treatment and support to children in a structured classroom setting. This is a highly collaborative role, integrated with various members of the Clinic's treatment team. A mental health practitioner may also carry a caseload of Skills Training for clients, as assigned by the clinic.

Our clinic realizes the distinctive role relationally-focused child and family providers have within the mental health profession. With four locations located on the outer edge of the metro area, the clinic works to expand access to mental healthcare services for all in need. The Mental Health Practitioner I position is not part of Lorenz Clinic's formal training program.

Job Duties

Job duties include:
  • Perform skills-training services under supervision of a mental health professional and in conjunction with psychotherapy
  • Carry and maintain a caseload as determined by the Clinic
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals to create and implement clinical treatment plans
  • Provide clinical services including preschool day treatment and group skills training
  • Attend and actively participate in individual and/or group supervision, monthly case consultation, Grand Rounds, business meetings, and other meetings as required by the Clinic
  • Comply with clinical documentation standards and deadlines as outlined by the Clinic
  • Utilize the Clinic's electronic health record to maintain the clinical chart
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Strictly comply with licensing board rules and APA and AAMFT Codes of Ethics
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with staff, patients, and business associates of the Clinic
  • Bill appropriate procedural codes accurately and timely
  • Keep abreast of billing issues and discuss with patients when necessary
  • Assist in intermittent peer-reviews of patient files
  • Adhere to additional directives by applicable direct clinical and administrative supervisors
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields AND
  • At least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services to people with mental illness. Candidates who have completed a practicum or internship that requires direct interaction with adults or children served, and is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields may qualify and are encouraged to apply regardless of whether they have 2000 hours of experience.
  • Bilingual (preferred)

  • Evidence of a high level of professionalism within the field
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage and navigate communications through email, voice mail, in-person, or through the mail in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability and willingness to provide services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, or families as assigned
  • Ability to respect diversity and integrate issues of culture into case conceptualizations
  • Ability to engage with patients who may be ambivalent about treatment
  • Ability to adapt interventions to patients' strengths, skills, and developmental levels
  • Commitment to empowering patients to solve their own problems when necessary
  • Ability to intervene decisively to protect patient safety
  • Ability to comply with clinic documentation standards and best professional practices
  • Ability to maintain and carry a full caseload as defined by the Clinic
  • Has working knowledge of child protection reporting requirements
  • Demonstrates perfect interpersonal boundaries with patients and other clinic staff

Other Requirements
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Reliable transportation to get to work
  • Ability to use a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to be reliable, punctual, and dependable
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Eligible to participate in government programs (is not excluded by the OEG or state)
  • Preference will be given to bilingual candidates

Salary Description

$19 - $22 per hour depending on qualifications
