Position Purpose:

The Pharmacist shall prepare and dispense orders according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. The retail pharmacist will ensure safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols. The pharmacist will contribute to the quality and effective operation of the department.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Position Specific Performance Expectations:


o Complies with all state and federal regulations, hospital, and Cardinal Health policies and procedures relating to drug dispensing including appropriate handling of drug products, adherence to security procedures, and completion of necessary documentation. This includes appropriate control and dispensing of controlled dangerous substances.
o Reviews and dispenses prescriptions and clarifies potential problems with prescribing physician
o Maintain highest level of customer relations by providing professional and prompt service, while providing pharmaceutical dispensing services.
o Monitors patient drug therapy regimens for allergies, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, and potential adverse reactions.
o Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs.
o Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners; recommends evidence-based medication therapy regimens and monitoring plans; and suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
o Promotes patient communication by counseling patients about potential side effects and proper ways to take medicine.
o Oversees activities of ancillary personal (Pharmacy Technicians/Assistants, Couriers and Cashiers) when Retail Pharmacy Manager or PIC is absent.
o Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions and medication errors accurately and in a timely manner.
o Assist in the ordering and maintenance of an economic and adequate inventory to service the needs and the requirements of the patients.
o Participate in cycle counting process and the resolution of any discrepancies.
o Participates in the training of pharmacy personnel.
o Maintains BLS certification and responsible for on time renewal
o Performs other duties as assigned.
o Generate reports, tickets and labels as required.
o Maintain logs, records and other required documentation and file in appropriate locations (i.e. invoices, daily paperwork).
o Maintains a clean working environment.
o Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Retail Pharmacy Manager.
o Adheres to MRH and department dress code policies and procedures.
o Maintains regulatory requirements.
o Strives to ensure continual compliance with departmental, hospital, state and federal regulations and policies.

o Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manages activity and time.
o Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:


o Must be at least 21 years old
o Must be able to legally work in the United States
o Must be able to pass a background check
o Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)
o Must complete employee health meeting

Education/Licensure/Certification:

o BLS required or within 6 months of hire
o Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required; PharmD preferred.
o Licensure by the State Board of Pharmacy required (Colorado)

Experience:

o 2-4 years previous pharmacy experience preferred.

Position Classification: Exempt

Compensation Range: $115,897 to $173,846
