Infection Preventionist Position Summary:

Promotes asafe environment where risks for infection are identified and minimized forpatients, employees, and visitors. Administers surveillance programs and reports data. Analyzes data and develops interventions aimedat reduction of healthcare acquired infection in patients and employees. Monitors and investigates known or suspected sources ofinfections in order to determine the source and ensure control. Reviewssterilization and disinfection techniques and recommends changes as needed.Provides related education to staff. Prepares simple cultures as needed forenvironmental and individual studies. Prepares infection control risk assessments and develops managementplans for identified risks. Relies onextensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs avariety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree ofcreativity and self-direction is expected.


Employee Health Nurse Position Summary:

The Employee Health nurse develops andadministers the Employee Health Program at Pagosa Springs Medical Center.Responsibilities associated with this position include Identification ofwork-related risks and developing programs and strategies that reduce thoserisks as much as possible, including a Fitness for Duty program. This critical position participates in thenew hire process by performing pre-employment health screenings andimmunizations and maintaining appropriate documentation of employee healthrecords. The Employee Health Nurse isa key member of the disaster responseteam, working as the Infection Preventionist to managingemployee health issuesrelated to the disaster or disaster response. The Employee Health Nurse provides education to staff that helpsemployees to understand their health and safety on the job. This position works closely with thephysician supervisor to develop protocols for managing employee health,including management of employee injuries and exposures.


Education/Training:

Post-secondary degree (e.g. associates or baccalaureate degree) from an accredited academic facility.

Experience:

Prefer at least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area and familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures; includes all of the following:

a. Identification of infectious disease processes

b. Surveillance and epidemiologic investigation

c. Preventing and controlling the transmission of infectious agents

Special Skills, Licenses or

Certifications:

Must be a licensed Colorado RN.

Certified in infection prevention and control or willing to become certified within 6 months of hire or as soon as practical with approval from supervisor.

Basic computer knowledge.

Typing/word processing/excel/email.
