Qualifications:

Ability to follow established procedures and take directions from supervisor

Experience in maintenance and custodial procedures

Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Capable of using all types of Operation's equipment with or without supervision

Physically able to lift, transport and position 50 pounds

Ability to collaborate with others and supervise personnel

Ability to work various shifts and various locations within school district

Ability to maintain emotional stability

Ability to read and comprehend basic operating instructions in English

Ability to comprehend and communicate in verbal and written English

Ability to verbally communicate in Spanish (Preferred)

Ability to write reports

Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of tasks as assigned

Basic computer skills: email and word processing

Primary Purpose:

Maintain physical facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety so that full educational use of the buildings can be accomplished at all times to provide students and employees an attractive, comfortable, efficient place in which to learn, work, play and develop.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and participate in all custodial work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, customer service and efficiency.
  2. Monitor and maintain a high level of cleanliness and supplies available in restrooms throughout school day.
  3. Responsible for opening the building and performing cafeteria duties daily.
  4. May be required to work weekend and/or after hour events.
  5. Is available on short notice for emergency or overtime work.
  6. Direct and assist in the relocation of furniture or equipment within building as directed by building administrator.
  7. Perform as fill-in for custodians when necessary (extra area).
  8. Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed.
  9. Be familiar with fire extinguisher locations and know how to operate them.
  10. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
  11. Work collaboratively with administrative staff to address building needs.
  12. Determine and assign extra work needed above routine duties.
  13. Assist in training custodians at assigned location in established cleaning procedures and techniques.
  14. Evaluate, in conjunction with Head Custodian, all custodians under supervision and help resolve personnel issues.
  15. Attend mandatory meetings and trainings.
  16. Supervise and follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding facility, including turning off lights.
  17. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
  18. Perform emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary.
  19. Assume additional duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Buffer, automatic floor scrubber, carpet extractor, wet and dry vacuum, burnisher, electric drill, hand tools, mop, dust-mop, chair dolly, two-way communication device, computer, washer and dryer.

Working Conditions:

Frequent walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals, materials and bodily fluids. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. Frequently positions self to gain access to tight spaces and low areas.
