Primary Purpose: To assist the teacher in carrying out the prescribed program for the assigned student. Qualifications:Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or its equivalent.
First Aid/CPR Certified.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board my find appropriate. Special Knowledge Skills:

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with teacher(s), students and administrators.

Experience:

Some experience in working with young children.
Temperament to work with students having disabilities.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:Catheterize and to assist the teacher and or nurse with the physical and educational needs of the assigned student.
Perform specialized health care services with RN supervision for the individual student.
Assist student in getting to and from the bathrooms or change diapers when needed.
Assist in feeding and positioning of student.
Be subject to bus monitor assignment.
Aid in the construction of teaching aides and materials.
Be familiar with and able to operate audio-visual equipment.
Grade or to assist in grading papers and recording scores.
Assist with implementation of students' Individual Educational Plan.
Assist the teacher in keeping orderly files of each student's program.
Be optimistic and cheerful when working with student.
Exercise firm but kin control of student's behavior, abiding by the teacher's policy.
Share responsibility for decoration of the classroom.
Assist the teacher in meeting the busses when the students arrive at school and as they leave.
Assist in duty as assigned by the school principal, teacher or supervisor.
Make home visits with the teacher.
Assist the teacher with classroom control emphasizing courtesy and good manners.
Be able to accept the teacher as the authority in the classroom.
Be subject to transfer or reassignment as necessary.
Be subject to split teacher assignment as needed.
Dress appropriately.
Ask for clarification of policies as necessary.
Refer parental concerns or staff concerns to the teacher, principal or special education supervisor.
Maintain CPR/First Aid certification to maintain confidentiality of students' testing.
Maintain confidentiality of students' testing, diagnosis, status, and personal problems.
Cooperate with staff members and treat colleagues respectfully.
Attend and meet required district hours of staff development.
Assist with toileting needs including diapering when necessary.
Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Campus Principal.
Supervisory Responsibilities:Working Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Must be able to lift up to 120 lbs. occasionally with assistance.
