Job Description

Title: GOVS Academic Coach
Reports to: Executive Director of Greater Ohio Virtual School
FLSA Status: Exempt

Qualifications:
  1. Current valid Ohio Driver's License
  2. Access to own motor vehicle
  3. Bachelor's Degree preferred
  4. Ability to lift 40 pounds unassisted.
  5. Pass criminal background check
  6. Teacher License Preferable
  7. Demonstrated the ability to establish positive rapport with students
  8. Knowledge and experience in establishing good home/school communication
  9. Understanding of high school curriculum and graduation requirements.
  10. Ability to work with students to help them set meaningful and attainable academic and personal goals.
  11. Possess technology skills and can help students with computer-assisted instruction.
  12. Demonstrates professional tact, diplomacy with students, parents, the community, teachers, staff, and administrators.
  13. Conscientious and assumes responsibility for own work performance
  14. Good attendance record


General Description: Monitor student progress in the digital learning environment and act as support system to foster student success. This position will be located at the Greater Ohio Virtual School Student Center on the Warren County Educational Service Center Western Row Campus in Mason, Ohio.

Essential Functions:
  1. Track weekly engagement in hours and completed lessons, compare to target expectations
  2. Provide feedback to students based on their engagement
  3. Thursdays: Contact new students, guide them through first day requirements, provide information about resources available at GOVS-such as mental health coordinator, Resource Coordinator, making students aware of free tutoring services offered at GOVS, informing students about work study program, College Credit Plus classes, Warren County Career Center
  4. Send testing reminders, STAR, End of Course Exams
  5. Track STAR attendance and follow-up to increase participation
  6. Plan social events for students at Student Center to help create connection to a physical space and allow students the opportunity to socialize with other GOVS students.
  7. Contact students with general GOVS information, student center happenings, GOVS updates, etc. via learning system messages/blasts, text messages, phone calls
  8. Engage with Seniors; through email, text, phone calls, scheduling meetings, to offer insight on graduation requirements and status
  9. Create individualized plans with students and/or parents based on their goals for the school year
  10. Collaborate with other GOVS staff members on student status
  11. Attend weekly Academic Coach meetings for an opportunity to share best practices, offer feedback, discuss weekly numbers, planning future student center events
  12. Collaborate with Testing Coordinators
  13. Support truancy officer with feedback and background information on students during weekly attendance meetings; based on these meetings and the information coaches have provided.
  14. Build rapport with students on caseload, to build a personal connection so students feel comfortable contacting with questions, comments, concerns
  15. Continue to monitor needs of students/families throughout the school year, and link to appropriate resources as needed.
  16. Help instill in students the belief that practice of ethical principles and democratic values
  17. Performs all duties in conformity to the adopted Board Policy
  18. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the County/District.
  19. Observes Risk Reduction Safety Rules and Regulations of Greater Ohio Virtual School,
  20. State, Federal OSHA laws and evaluated to the extent of compliance and implementation as an employee of such rules and regulations for safety in the workplace while visitin such sites in line of work duties.
