Washington College is seeking a visionary leader to grow its programs and transform the Intercultural Center into a vital cultural hub for Washington College's student body; supporting not only the social development of our students from diverse backgrounds but cultivating their wellness and sense of belonging on campus. To that end, we're also looking for a value-driven leader to advocate and advance change for the college.

The Director of Student Intercultural Affairs is responsible for providing leadership, support, and guidance for intercultural and diversity related programming as part of Washington College's Student Affairs team. A value-driven leader, the Director for Student Intercultural Affairs directs activities of the department, advocates for students, and advances change in accordance with the Washington College mission, strategic plans, and departmental goals.

Essential Functions:

* Directs the development and implementation of intercultural and diversity programs and services for students in accordance with the needs of the College, its students, and nationally accepted best practices.


* Provides advising support for organizations and clubs for students from historically underrepresented populations, including Black Student Union, Cleopatra's Sisters, FirstGen Club, Latin Student Union, African Student Union, Chinese Culture Club, the Hillel House, and LGBTQIA2S+ clubs such as EROS, SAGE, & PAC, as well as many others.


* Creates space and support for student faith, religious and spiritual, practice and education.


* Provides mentorship for the Student Government Association's diversity representative.


* Cultivates community partnerships.


* Manages a fiscally responsible budget for the department of the Intercultural Center and Intercultural Affairs.


* Works closely with and is available to students on an individual and group basis for issues relating to social and academic adjustment, multiculturalism, inclusion, diversity, and campus climate.


* Establishes collaborative relationships with fellow faculty, staff, and departments responsible for student life and academic success with special attention to the directors of: the Global Education Office, Residential Living, Student Engagement, and the Washington Scholars.


* Designs and implements Student Leader training programs for designated groups; collaborates with other student affairs areas in the design and implementation of an intercultural education program as part of orientation.


* Attends Bias Education Response Team (BERT) and Diversity Committee meetings, contributing to the Office of Student Affairs' voice and response to bias incidents on campus.


* Conducts regular planning and assessment to increase the effectiveness of multicultural and diversity efforts provided by the department in promoting student learning and satisfaction.



Additional responsibilities:

* Manages the Intercultural Center at Minta Martin Hall, including oversight of the use and operations of the facility.


* Serves as the administrative liaison for the Center for the Study of Black Culture and oversees programming for the Center.


* Recruits, hires, and supervises Student Intercultural Ambassadors.


* Other duties within the department of Student Affairs as assigned.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; exercise effective independent professional judgment; establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, student organizations, faculty, and staff; and relate successfully in on-on-one and group situations with persons representing diverse backgrounds and interests.


* Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices and theories of student learning and development with a keen understanding of the cultural, social, and educational needs of a small residential liberal arts college.


* Experience advising student groups and proficiency in the planning and assessment of student programs and activities.


* Experience with budget management and supervisory leadership.


* Experience building an inclusive community.


* Bachelor's degree required with at least 3 years working with diverse populations, preferably in a college or university setting; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.



Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, psychology, social work, or other related fields
* Experience or knowledge in restorative justice practices and mediation.
* Credentials or course work in the field of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
