Caton Construction Group, a heavy highway and civil construction company--and one of The Caton Companies--is seeking CDL Drivers/Construction Workers to fill various roles throughout Virginia and North Carolina. Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with DOT physical and experience operating dump trucks and/or water trucks. We are specifically seeking Heavy Equipment Operators with CDL, Laborers with CDL, and other construction craft workers who possess a CDL. Driving responsibilities will be supplemental to the responsibilities of the craft position.

Pay is negotiable and based on experience.

Summary/Objective

Experienced construction craftsman who is also a CDL driver who can handle large trucks--particularly the dump truck with a trailer and/or a water truck. Responsible for transporting various loose materials, including sand and gravel, rocks, and paving materials among others. Such hauling and dumping of raw materials from one place to another are necessary for construction and road repairs.

Essential Functions

In addition to driving responsibilities, work in the craft for which candidate is hired is also required.

Expected to perform maintenance on vehicles such as cleaning the interior and exterior, filling the gas tank or taking the vehicle to get scheduled repairs.

Operates the dump truck to move materials and equipment from one site to another, usually with a trailer.

Track sales receipts for gas purchases and repairs, as well as mileage reports when driving to various sites.

Operate company-owned and leased trucks over 4 tons to facilitate shipping and receiving operations.

Operate trucks for the delivery, pickup and relocation of materials.

Perform required before-, during- and after-operation "user maintenance" and provide required reports.

Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations.

Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs.

Maintain and protect all property in excellent condition.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, with time provided for lunch, hours may vary and may involve overtime and weekend work. Work may be local or out of town in which case overnight stays are required.

Travel/ Driving

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Commercial Driver's License is required.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

1 or more year(s) of experience in a heavy civil construction craft and as a CDL driver
