Local COMMERCIAL TRUCK DRIVER - Thurston County

Cowden Brothers Trucking hires commercial truck drivers to operate tractor/trailers hauling 53' container chassis from waste transfer stations to rail yards.

We are currently hiring drivers for a new 10-year contract from the Thurston Waste and Recycling Center down to the Centralia Rail Yard. Please complete this application and submit a detailed resume to show your work history.

All of the equipment used on the dedicated haul will be brand new (Trucks and Chassis).This haul will include 3-5 loads per day from the Thurston County Transfer Station to an intermodal yard in Centralia. Our driving positions are permanent, full-time employment. Cowden looks for professional commercial truck drivers with a valid CDL. We specifically look for drivers who have previous experience.

Serving Northwest Washington since 1945, Cowden is committed to providing quality products and genuine customer care. Top candidates for employment will be safe and courteous, skilled, dependable, enthusiastic, and willing to follow directions. While each truck requires different demands, we expect all our drivers to be physically capable of lifting 45 lbs., climbing fixed-ladders, performing vehicle inspections, and handling adverse weather conditions.

GENERAL CMV DRIVER JOB DUTIES OVERVIEW
  • Inspect and transport various materials from location to location
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Maintain appearance, clean/wash vehicle inside and out
  • Ability to climb, stoop, bend, squat, stretch, sit, shift gears, and tarp loads, if applicable
  • Available for flexible work schedule according to customer needs, Mon-Fri/Sat
  • Communicate with dispatch and work cooperatively with team
  • Attend safety and team meetings
  • Adjust axle pressure settings for proper load distribution
  • Drive in compliance with traffic laws and Company policies
  • Evaluate job sites for safety
  • Complete required paperwork
  • Provide excellent customer service

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • Safe driving record (current MVR will be requested)
  • Current, valid CDL Class A (or B mixer trucks only)
  • Current DOT medical card
  • Experience (preferred)
  • Negative pre-employment drug screen (required)
  • Eligibility to work in the US (valid documents required)
  • Canadian admissibility requirements to cross border into Canada (and/or FAST card a plus)
  • Must pass a drive test
  • Must be able to pass a physical fitness test, if applicable
  • Criminal background checks are conducted
