Job Summary

The Institute for Behavioral Genetics has a post-doctoral training opportunity available through an NIH-funded T32 training grant administered through the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Several investigators may serve as possible mentors for an outstanding candidate who wishes to further their training in behavior genetics. Projects include analyses of large human genetic datasets, mouse behavioral experiments and functional genetic/genomic studies aimed at uncovering and understanding the genetics and genomics of substance use disorders. Who We Are

The Institute for Behavioral Genetics (IBG) is one of the world's leading institutes for genetic research on behavior. Internationally renowned research projects include the Colorado Adoption Project, the Colorado Twin Study, and Longitudinal Twin Study, the Colorado Learning Disabilities Research Center, the Colorado Drug Research Center, and the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study. IBG also is home to a DNA repository (about 40K samples) for research on human behavior. In addition, research at IBG includes studies with behaviorally and genetically defined lines of selected, recombinant inbred, transgenic, knockout and knock-in mice and rats. Current research areas include aging, alcohol use, behavioral development, brain structure and function, cognitive abilities and executive functions, drug abuse, evolution, neurodegenerative disease, nicotine dependence, nicotinic receptors, opioids, personality, psychopathology, reading and learning disabilities, and synaptic plasticity.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

* Responsibilities will include conducting addiction-relevant research under the mentorship of an IBG faculty member.
* Duties will involve experimental design, data analyses, reporting of results through conference presentations and publications, and participation in training grant-required events such as the weekly IBG Journal Club and the annual IBG mini-conference and IBG poster day.
* Other duties will depend on the chosen lab and may include the supervision of junior lab members, serving as lab manager, assisting with grant proposal preparation, etc.

What You Should Know

* Must have Ph.D. or equivalent degree and start by June 30, 2024
* This position is restricted to US Citizens or Green Card holders because of the funding source, but applicants from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

What We Can Offer

* The salary range will be from $56,484 to $66,228, based on years of experience as defined by the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) stipends NOT-OD-23-076 for T32 Training grants.
* This position is for 1-3 years depending on progress.

What We Require

* Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, Genetics or related field (by the time of start date).
* Expertise in some of these areas: human statistical genetics, mouse behavioral genetics, neuroscience, imaging genetics.

What We Would Like You to Have

* Publications in the area of the proposed postdoctoral training.
