Job Description:

- Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness, and organizing medical reports for placement in files.
- Review charts to ensure all reports and signatures are present.
- Type health information forms, prepare charts for new admissions, fill out forms, and prepare requests for specific reports or certificates.
- Compile and type statistical reports such as daily & monthly census, Medicaid days, admissions, discharges, or length of stay.
- File reports into health information records, record information in logs, and file and retrieve health information records in the filing system.
- Provide information from health information records after determining the appropriateness of the request.
- Coordinate with other departments concerning health information records procedures.

- Knowledge of health information technology.
- Understanding of regulations governing medical record keeping and confidentiality of patient information.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Skill in using a typewriter and/or word processor and calculator.
- Ability to deal with problems involving few variables within a familiar context, write routine business letters, evaluations or records following standard procedures, proofread medical reports and recognize errors, and recognize when medical records information is missing.
- Ability to gather, collate, and classify information about data, people, or things.
