POSITION SUMMARY:
This position contributes to the fulfillment of *** vision and mission by utilizes independent judgment in the performance of diagnostic imaging procedures in the radiology department, performing routine to complex diagnostic procedures in diagnostic mammography under the direction of a radiologist, and performing routine to complex CT procedures for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols under the direction/supervision of a radiologists/physician in a hospital based CT department where a wide variety of exams are regularly preformed.
SUPERVISION: Reports to Radiology Supervisor
SHIFT: Full-Time, Every other Weekend Rotation, On call shifts
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduates from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
Registered and certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R) and certified by the State Board of Health.
Licensed by the state of Nebraska as a General Radiographer (each state has different licensure requirements).
Registered and certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology with Mammography (ARRT) (R) and MRI, (M) -Preferred
Cross-trained into Computed Tomography or voluntarily test for ARRT certification in computed tomography.-Required
Possess professional oral and written communication skills.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs diagnostic procedures on patients to meet the established practice parameters and standards of care including proper positioning/centering of part/patient, proper technical factor selection, proper image/patient identification, proper use of image receptors, proper professional patient care and assessment, proper radiation protection provided for patient/staff/general public, and proper documentation maintained.
Works as a member of the healthcare team including physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals in diagnostic testing procedures such as fluoroscopy, trauma and surgery.
Utilize a fluoroscopic unit to image patients in certain procedures as outlined in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists Practice standard document, state certification requirements and institutional parameters.
Performs specialized procedures for diagnosis and assistance in the design of treatment for patients including myelograms and gastrointestinal exams.
Adheres to medical and surgical asepsis and standard precautions as required per procedure.
Administers contrast media and barium products under the direction of the radiologist/physician.
Ensures contrast media used in exams is prepared and available for use in accordance with accepted practices in sterility and infection control.
Performs radiologic exams in surgery suite as necessary.
Operates portable machine in patient rooms, obstetric suite and ER as necessary.
Follow precise procedures as to exposure and position of patient.
Maintains the quality of radiographs, procedures and services. Reviews quality of radiographic images.
Operates required imaging equipment using established guidelines and imaging protocols.
Routine protocols and specific radiologist directions are followed in the mammography division.
Proper lead markers are used to identify patient position on all mammographic images.
Appropriate x-spots and nipple markers are used, being certain to note such usage on patient history forms.
Maintains updated CME s on radiologists.
Maintains proper information for FDA and ACR renewals.
Maintains records of PM s on mammography unit.
Maintains licensure/certification through continuing education per ARRT and FDA guidelines.
Performs quality assurance check on equipment. Phantom QA scans are run and recorded in logbook.
Operates required equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and CT protocols.
Startup and shutdown procedures are performed in accordance with manufacturer s guidelines.
Completion of contrast form is verified, and information provided is validated. Acts upon information that may be contraindication (abnormal lab values, previous contrast reactions, pregnancy status) to procedure and does not follow established exam protocol.
Starts IV access according to standard procedure and injects contrast media under the direction of a physician.
Appropriate IV site is selected according to exam protocol.
Proper catheter or needle is selected and introduced via venipuncture following established standard precaution guidelines.
Correct IV contrast is selected and correct amount for administration is prepared in accordance with radiologist prescribed protocol and manufacturer s guidelines.
Appropriate injection parameters are selected, and injections are monitored according to established guidelines.
Injection amount, IV location and flow rate is recorded on correct documentation is generated when infiltration or reaction occurs.
Prepares and positions patient for patient for procedure by using established CT protocols to achieve the highest quality image.
Correct exam protocol on scanner console is selected and parameters are modified in accordance with radiologist prescribed protocol.
Patient is assisted onto scanner table using hospital lift equipment as needed.
Patient is positioned on scanner table using appropriate immobilization aides.
Procedure is explained in layman s terms and time for feedback is allowed ensuring all questions are addressed prior to beginning exam.
Ensures that diagnostic images are available for review by radiologist as necessary.
Patient requisitions are reviewed and verified for accuracy to ensure the correct procedure is performed.
Performs clerical duties, transports patients as required, processes images and proper inventory supplies.
Assists with quality control/performance improvement measures as required.
Departmental protocol book is reviewed and procedure with regards to patients requisition is validated.
Properly identifies and explains procedure to patient.
Patients are identified in accordance with established hospital policies using two patient identifiers.
Assists in maintaining supply inventory.
Ensures proper safety standards are met.
Radiation protection policies are observed.
Infection control standards are observed in patient care areas.
Knowledge of proper fire and safety plans are demonstrated.
Procedure room is inspected to ensure appropriate supplies are available based in caseload and established par levels and expired items are removed.
Works closely with radiologists, physicians, specialty physicians, lab technologists, nurses, patients, patient s family members and other facility staff personnel.
Assists with on-call coverage by participating in on-call schedule.
Wears dosimetry badge at all times while involved in radiological procedures.
Maintains licensure/certification through continuing education.
Participates in committees where needed, attends in-service programs and hospital meetings.
Maintains strict patient confidentiality.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Maintains current professional license in accordance with state law.
