PURPOSE:

The Jewish Board's Adult Residential Division supports adults with serious and persistent mental illness to live in the community with as much independence as possible. Using a non-judgmental, harm-reduction approach, staff model and guide residents to create and meet personalized recovery goals, develop independent living skills, and live in a healthy and secure manner. Our work is guided by principles that underscore the critical importance of stable housing, use a culturally competent and anti-racist lens, and respect the dignity and legitimacy of each individual's journey.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
  • The Program Assistant will provide programs with accomplishing various support service provisions.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Meet with management agency representatives at respective units during apartment assessments and repairs.
  • Accompany Jewish Board Facility staff and/or program vendors to respective units for participant caused maintenance or repair.
  • Transport Adult Residential staff and residents to complete home visits, and apartment walkthroughs.
  • Support with assessing new apartments, including transporting staff and residents to complete prospective apartment assessments.
  • Pick up items at other agency locations and transfer to another location as needed.
  • Provide general clerical duties such as manning the front desk, answering telephone, greeting visitors,
  • Respond to general questions about the program. Work with the program's office manager to complete
  • Assigned tasks.
  • Participate in training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, work creatively and independently, as well as function in a team environment

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
  • Minimum of year of experience working in a residential setting, preferably with adults living with mental illness.

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability and willingness to learn new systems and application software.

VIVISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY:
  • Engage in physical activities with the residence
  • Ability to read paper and electronic documents
  • Ability to perform data entry into various computer programs as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds to assist residents and to manage stairs in walk-up buildings as needed.
  • To perform the essential functions of this job, the candidate is routinely required to sit (25% of the time) and stand (75% of the time)
  • Ability to travel via NYC MTA to visit residents in apartments or to escort residents in the community.
