Summary:

A Battery Chief Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge battery technologies within our organization. You will oversee all aspects of battery engineering, from conceptualization to production, ensuring that our battery systems meet performance, safety, and reliability standards. In addition, a chief engineer will work cross functionally with BMS development in part, systems engineering and current production team members within LGESMI.

Responsibilities:

* Battery System Development: Lead the design and development of advanced battery systems, including cell selection, packaging, thermal management, and system integration.
* Provide technical expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle. Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and software engineers to optimize battery performance and integration within overall product designs.
* Stay abreast of the latest advancements in battery chemistry and technology. Evaluate new materials and technologies for potential integration into future battery systems.
* Define test plans and protocols to validate battery performance, safety, and reliability. Analyze test data and implement design improvements based on results.
* Ensure that battery designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as UN/DOT transportation regulations, UL standards, and automotive safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
* Identify potential risks and challenges associated with battery development and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
* Collaborate with external suppliers to source high-quality battery cells and components. Manage supplier relationships to ensure on-time delivery and adherence to quality standards.
* Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and engineering drawings. Communicate project status and key milestones to stakeholders through regular progress reports and presentations.
* Support manufacturing and assembly processes by providing technical expertise and resolving engineering issues related to battery pack production.
* Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to high voltage battery systems for electric vehicles.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.
* Extensive experience (5+ years) in electrification, with a focus on lithium-ion battery systems.
* Strong understanding of battery integration and design practices.
* Proficiency in battery modeling and simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink).
* Experience with battery testing equipment and methodologies, such as thermal, environmental, and accelerated aging tests.
* Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations governing battery design and safety.
* Excellent project management skills, with a track record of leading cross-functional teams and delivering complex projects on schedule.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Creative problem-solving abilities and a passion for innovation in battery technology.

Experience:

* Experience leading product design engineering responsibilities through the complete development process (quote to mass production)
* Experience with PLM systems.
* Experience with program development milestone reviews - for internal and external stakeholder approvals.

* Knowledge and experience within automotive and heavy duty vehicle industries, including high voltage battery systems and electric vehicles.
