The CSU provides services to children experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency. Services provided include a comprehensive risk assessment by a clinician, as well as assessments by psychiatrists and nurses. Additionally, there will be recommendations for after care planning, referral to outpatient services, and if needed, post crisis stabilization services (PCSS) for ongoing mental health services. Crisis stabilization services are utilized with the goal of resolving the acute crisis and facilitating a safe discharge to the community. If a higher level of care is required, and the youth cannot be safely discharged to the community, they will be referred for inpatient psychiatric treatment.
