JOB TITLE: PARENT INVOLVEMENT & ATTENDANCE LIAISON

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent the Liaison assists in supporting the district and school sites in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of family engagement practices that directly impact improved student achievement. The Liaison will also assist in maximizing the attendance of pupils registered with the district in accordance with requirements for compulsory full-time education, meet with parents or guardians, provide follow-up and communication with parents or guardians concerning issues that may be affecting their student's education.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Parent Involvement: Assists in ensuring compliance with appropriate laws that pertain to federal and state programs policy and regulations pertaining to parent participation. Assists in providing training to sites in planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring programs and procedures with regard to parent participation, including how to effectively work with diverse families. Assists schools in providing workshops, classes, and activities for parents and guardians. Assists in preparing and distributing materials for workshops, classes and activities. Attends DELAC, and other parent meetings as appropriate. Assists in supporting site ELAC's with compliance and provides training as needed. Assists district and school staff to coordinate parent involvement and outreach activities for increased parent involvement for all students, particularly English Learners. Assists assigned administrator to conduct surveys to assess the needs of parents at school sites and/or district; reviews annual reports to evaluate the effectiveness of parent involvement programs. Assists assigned administrator in collaboration with other districts and agencies in San Benito County to develop an annual calendar of planned Parent Involvement/Training activities. Assists in the recruitment and development of parent or guardian leaders to serve on various sites and district leadership groups.

Attendance/Truancy: Works with the Assistant Principals regarding student attendance and adjustments. Works with the Assistant Principals and assigned Administrator to process student truancy referrals. Conducts parent conferences, monitors performance, conducts reviews, and may attend SARB hearings and truancy mediation, as needed. Determines student needs and makes referrals to appropriate agencies. Provides training to site staff in the implementation of district attendance policies and procedures and monitors their implementation.

Other: Communicates to families using a variety of media. Serves as a resource to staff for consultation regarding family needs Maintains thorough records, logs and reports as directed Maintains the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information. Performs other duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Training and Experience: Ability to correctly speak, read and write English and Spanish is required. High school graduation and some college-level courses; and some experience working with community service organizations and with school districts. Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered. Ability to use computers and software Familiarity with office practices, record-keeping, report writing, and school policies Ability to communicate effectively and work with students, staff and parents or guardians Ability to organize individual or group workshops, classes and or meetings Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents or guardians

Knowledge: Must be able to learn knowledge of district attendance policies and procedures and applicable sections of State Education Code and other laws applicable to compulsory attendance. Must have leadership skills and knowledge of effective parent involvement practices.

Abilities: Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation; ability or organize and prioritize work with little or no direct supervision, reliable employee, adjust to changing circumstances, act decisively and accept responsibility for decisions; possess skills in meeting and time management, work well with people and possess good communication skills and maintain confidentiality. English/Spanish Biliteracy skills required as measure by biliteracy assessment results.

Physical Effort/Working Environment: Light physical effort; occasional standing or walking; periodic handling of light weight parcels or supplies. Indoor work environment. A pre-placement physical examination may be required.

License and Certifications: A valid Class 3 California driver's license and evidence of appropriate automobile insurance based on DMV regulations may be required, in addition to a valid First Aid and CPR certificate.
