I. Position Guide and Job Description

General Cafeteria Worker

II. Organizational Position

General cafeteria workers are directly responsible to the Head Cook and/or his or her designee.

III. General Scope of Position

General cafeteria workers are responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of food. All workers shall in the responsibility of keeping a clean, sanitary and safe work environment.

IV. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Prepare food under the direction of the Head Cook.
  1. Assist and serve food items to the students and staff.
  1. Operate food preparation equipment such as mixers, choppers, steamers and other food preparation equipment as directed by the Head Cook.
  1. Operate a cash register as assigned by the Head Cook.
  1. Operate the dish machine and other cleaning equipment as assigned by the Head Cook.
  1. Manual cleaning of pots and pans and other cooking equipment.
  1. Assist in keeping serving lines and areas supplied with food.
  1. Receive food and supply deliveries and place in appropriate storage areas as directed by the Head Cook.
  1. Assist in the planning, set up and preparation of special catering events as directed by the Head Cook.
  1. Assist the Head Cook and his or her designee in other areas relating to the cafeteria that may be deemed appropriate.

V. Required Qualifications and Experience
  1. Educational: High school diploma required.
Experience in cafeteria food preparation and or food service experience helpful.
Knowledge of operation of food preparation equipment, including safety practices helpful.
  1. Physical: Should be able to lift at least 60 pounds without any help.
Must be able to push food and utility carts and utilize other equipment.
Demonstrate manual dexterity required to operate food preparation equipment.
