Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for the gross examination and description of surgical specimens submitted to the Pathology Department. The Pathology Assistant is to have a thorough knowledge and great proficiency in the skills of performing gross description and cutting techniques of surgical specimens. They should be capable of performing moderate and highly complex procedures in Surgical Pathology. They should present a pleasing and helpful manner to clients, physicians and all hospital personnel. They should be able to communicate with physicians, pathologists and clinicians in a knowledgeable and professional manner as well as support and contribute to the laboratory objectives by assisting their fellow employees. They are responsible for compliance with relevant local, state and federal guidelines and regulations. The incumbent is to present for work in a timely manner, groomed professionally, and perform their job function in accordance with all Norton Healthcare standards, policies and procedures. Norton Healthcare CPA Lab is a major provider of high-quality anatomic and clinical pathology services throughout the Louisville area to include markets in multiple surrounding Kentucky counties and Southern Indiana. CPA Lab is a five hospital system with a centralized lab servicing inpatient, outpatient, and reference clients from pediatric to geriatric all within Louisville, KY and within a 10 mile radius from all hospital campuses. We have a team of six pathologist assistants and 27 pathologists distributed at all locations. This position is located at the main campus and duties will include, but are not limited to: dissection, tissue selection, gross description, gross photography, and quality assurance relative to surgical pathology specimens. No autopsy duties, on-call, or weekends are necessary. Completion of an accredited Pathologist Assistants program is required. The pathologist assistant will work under the technical supervision of the pathologist(s) in the area of surgical pathology.

Located along the Ohio River, Louisville has several nearby lakes, national forests and parks with hiking, kayaking, caves, and bike trails in warmer seasons. Even though our annual snowfall is less than 10 inches per year, ice skating, snow skiing, boarding, and tubing are available. We experience all seasons mildly. Louisville is known as an Arts & Entertainment as well as a food destination. Louisville is an eclectic city and offers something for everyone from individuals to families.

Qualifications

Required:

* One year in health sciences
* Bachelor Degree
* One of: PATHA or MD Incumbents with no active MD licensure must obtain Pathologists Assistant (ASCP) (PATHA) credential within one year of hire.

Desired:

* Master Degree; Doctorate Degree
* Medical Doctor OR Pathologists Assistant (ASCP)
