As a Respiratory Therapist with Polysomnography, you will play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with sleep disorders, particularly those related to respiratory issues. You will be responsible for conducting sleep studies, analyzing results, and providing effective therapy to improve patients' sleep quality and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Polysomnography Studies: Perform overnight and daytime sleep studies on patients, including monitoring vital signs, sleep patterns, and respiratory functions.
- Patient Assessment: Assess and evaluate patients for sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, and other respiratory-related conditions.
- Sleep Study Preparation: Prepare patients for sleep studies, explaining the procedure and ensuring their comfort throughout the process.
- Equipment Operation: Set up and operate polysomnography equipment, including sensors, electrodes, and monitoring devices, to record and monitor patient data.
- Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret sleep study results, identifying abnormalities, patterns, and trends to diagnose sleep disorders accurately.
- Treatment Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients based on the findings from sleep studies.
- Therapeutic Intervention: Administer therapeutic interventions, such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) therapy, and oxygen therapy, as appropriate.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including sleep study reports, treatment plans, progress notes, and billing information.
- Patient Education: Educate patients on the importance of adhering to treatment plans and provide guidance on lifestyle changes to improve sleep quality.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices in sleep medicine and respiratory therapy.
- Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.
- Valid state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
- Certification in Polysomnography (CPSGT or RPSGT).
- CPR certification.
- Strong understanding of respiratory physiology and sleep disorders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Prior experience in a similar role is preferred.
