Job Summary

This position is capable of assisting in 3 main fields within the Animal Shelter.

* Shelter Support assists within the shelter by providing support to the staff with daily tasks - tasks are, but not limited to, dishes, laundry, sweeping, mopping, photography, community outreach, enrichment prep, door greeter.
* Cat Care assists in improving the quality of life for the cats and kittens housed at our shelter while waiting for adoption.
* Dog Care assists in improving the quality of life for the dogs and puppies housed at our shelter while waiting for adoption.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

Minimum age to volunteer for this position is 18 years old.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum age to volunteer for this position is 18 years old.

Volunteers selected must complete an interview, successfully pass a background check, attend a one-hour orientation, complete two training sessions, and online training.

Duties/Responsibilities

Shelter Support

* Learn basic sanitization and cleaning protocols of the MSBACR shelter.
* Ability to stand, bend, and move for longer periods of time.
* Able to lift objects up to 60lbs if needed.
* Assist with cleaning used dishes in the dish room.
* Assist with laundry - washing, drying, and folding.
* Learning general lay out of MSBACR and location of items.
* Knowledge of MSBACR policies.
* Comfort with public speaking.

Cat Care

* Socialize the cats in our care by providing basic interaction.
* Basic grooming of the cats
* Provide mental stimulation for the cats.
* Provide opportunities for the cats to interact with adopters.
* Familiarity with cats, and cat behavior.
* Friendly and people oriented.
* Complete Fear Free Certification within 7 days of Volunteer Orientation.

Dog Care

* Exercise dogs outdoors - walking on a leash or fenced in play.
* Socialize puppies in their kennels.
* Practice basic obedience with the dogs in accordance with MSBACR values.
* Provide mental stimulation for the dogs.
* Provide opportunities for the dogs to interact with adopters.
* Clean up after dogs regularly.
* Assist Shelter Assistants with getting dogs out for clients.
* Be able to handle dogs of all shapes and sizes.
* Be comfortable, and able, to work with dogs in all types of weather - snow, rain, cold, etc.
* Complete Fear Free Certification within 7 days of Volunteer Orientation.
