We're currently looking for an Occasional Caregiver in Pasadena, CA 91105
A lovely family near South Arroyo is seeking an occasional caregiver for their 67-year-old mother to start immediately. Backup care is needed 1-4 times per month on any day between Monday-Saturday between 7am-5pm, typically at least 4 hours at a time.

The client resides at an assisted living facility in Pasadena, and the family is looking for someone to engage with her in various activities including puzzles, nail care, and coloring books. The client enjoys discussing pop culture, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. The client is diabetic, has a history of a stroke with left arm weakness, and is forgetful at times. She uses a 4lb. cane when walking, and a wheelchair for longer distances which can fit into a standard-sized trunk. She wears adult diapers and may require under-the-arm assistance when standing up (client weighs ~130 lbs). She has a history of seizures and the caregiver will need to assist with checking her sugar. Should this occur she wears a continuous glucose monitor. The client can administer insulin independently, but it will be helpful if the provider can indicate the right dosage.

The family can provide at least a week's notice before backup care is needed. Those applying do not need to be available for all of the family's requests, but should understand that there are no guaranteed weekly hours for this position. A great candidate will be attentive, compassionate, flexible, and patient.
  • Start date: ASAP
  • End date: 3 months, possibility to extend
  • Schedule: Intermittent care - No guaranteed weekly hours
    • Backup care is needed on an as-needed basis, Mondays-Saturdays, between 7am-5pm (4 hour time-frames)
  • Compensation: $30 per hour + parking & gas reimbursement when driving the client

Upcoming days/times care is needed:
  • January 21, 2025, 11am-3pm

Responsibilities
  • Assisting client with getting in/out of vehicle
  • Attending doctor's appointments with the client (in Pasadena) + taking notes to share with the family (will need to meet the client at the appointment)
  • Assisting client with taking/monitoring the client's sugar, and selecting the correct insulin dosage if needed
  • Driving client to doctor's appointments (outside of Pasadena) along with other outings; furthest distance ~20 miles (provider will need to pick up the client from the assisted living center in Pasadena and transport them to their appointment)
  • Engaging with the client with various recreation activities; coloring, puzzles, etc.
  • Lifting assistance as needed
  • Medication reminders (active list of medications will be provided by the hiring family)

Requirements
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of paid professional caregiving experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be current CPR certification or willing to renew
  • Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record + valid driver's insurance
  • Must have a reliable vehicle to transport the client
  • Must speak fluent English
  • Must be able to provide at least two professional care-related references, or references that collectively cover at least two years of professional adult/elderly care experience, whichever is greater

Compensation + Benefits

This position pays $30 per hour, and the family is looking for occasional/intermittent care, on an as needed basis.
