Description

Job Description - CDL PROFESSIONAL - Overnight Produce Run

The primary function of this position is to transport fresh produce from the Hunts Point Produce Market in the Bronx to our warehouse in Brewster, NY. This is an overnight position requiring a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

An individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all pre-trip responsibilities, including: obtaining and reviewing driver manifest, completing required trailer temperature checks and performing pre-trip safety check inspections of trucks and trailers according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Drive a commercial vehicle to transport produce between the Hunts Point Produce Market and the Ace Endico warehouse.
  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Securely load and unload produce, utilizing proper handling techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and complete paperwork, including bills of lading and delivery receipts.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and warehouse personnel.
  • Collaborate with the warehouse team to ensure timely and accurate product delivery.
  • Adhere to strict food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Consistently monitor refrigeration system on truck for safety; follow all safe food handling procedures.
  • Unload products from the trailer using a liftgate, an electric pallet jack, a hand truck or by hand and place items in designated customer storage areas.
  • Return truck to Ace Endico when route is completed.
  • Perform all post-trip responsibilities: unloading damaged goods and customer returns and completing necessary paperwork; performing safety inspections on the truck/trailer; parking and securing the truck/trailer; securing the hand truck and electric pallet jack; completing DOT logs (electronic or manual as required) and company vehicle maintenance reports (DVIR) and reconcile these with the appropriate company representative as required.
  • Perform duties of Yard Jockey/Fueler when not performing Produce Run duties.
  • Attend all required company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and company policies. - Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License issued by the state of legal residence and be DOT qualified.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language as it relates to the job and safety requirements - able to hold a conversation, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to enter information on reports and records.
  • Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Must be able to work the assigned schedule including various early morning start times, 10+ hour shifts, overtime, Saturdays and holidays.
  • Must be able to use, or learn to use, all equipment and tools used to perform the job.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
  • No more than two convictions in the past two-year period for traffic violations. No more than one of these may be a serious (as defined by DOT) violation or result of an accident - company or private vehicle; No DUI convictions within past three years, regardless of type of vehicle operated; no driver's license suspension within past three years (insurance and overweight tickets are excluded); and no termination by previous employer for failure to comply with safety regulations or for accident involvement for the past three years.

Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Frequently lift, push, or move product that weighs up to 75 pounds unassisted. When lifting more than 75 pounds, a lifting device should be used, or two or more people may assist.
  • Frequently reach up to 72 inches to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart. o Constantly bend and twist while loading and unloading product and retrieving items from trailer.

  • Able to work in extreme/inclement weather conditions with frequent stops (10+ per shift) required
  • At times, transport product down ramps, stairs, or docks, in all weather conditions.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and extreme/inclement weather conditions. Temperatures range from below zero to 95F degrees or above outdoors. Employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
