Individuals in these positions are to a considerable extent, expected to exercise independent technical judgments and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art, and science of practical nursing. Employees at this grade level demonstrate broader knowledge skill with respect to these responsibilities than employees at lower grades. The LPN is responsible for goals and interventions that promote veterans in attaining maximum functional potential. This is accomplished through but not limited to modalities such as ambulation, bowel and bladder training, dressing, grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, range of motion exercises and fall prevention modalities. The incumbent has basic knowledge and skills necessary for a concentrated effort and is somewhat independent in carrying out standardized procedures of limited complexity. The incumbent is responsible to deliver fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. This position may entail other duties as assigned and travel duties as assigned to the community level clinics. Duties include but are not limited to the following: a. Participates in the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's treatment plan. b. Interacts with patients in groups in accordance with the patient's treatment plan. c. Observes, identifies, and responds to the patients' needs for nursing, medication, and equipment assisted care and recognizes deviations from normal. d. Uses practical knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to situations in working effectively with patients, family, and other staff members.
