DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The St. Charles Health System's Food Services Department is a high-volume service department that provides food and beverage services including patient room service, retail services, and food supply distribution.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The St. Charles Food Services Manager provides overall direction and management to the Food Services Department at the Bend campus and leads coordination and management of Food Service initiatives and contracts impacting the health system. This position directly supervises Caregivers in the Food Services Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Manages all aspects of food services to patients, including operations, financial planning, action planning, problem resolution, customer service, clinical quality, safety, education, and other functional areas, as necessary.

Assess patients' nutritional needs while implementing and monitoring the appropriate nutritional care plan in a variety of inpatient settings.

Remains current with nutritional knowledge as applied to patient populations and partners closely with the Nutrition and Diabetes Department.

Responsible for conference room management including organizational policies, A/V equipment, and service contracts.

Leads and participates in quality improvement, marketing, and community education projects.

Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control.

Manages and coordinates system-wide policies, initiatives, projects, and contracts involving Bend, Redmond, Madras, and Prineville Food Service departments.

Actively and visibly supports the mission of St. Charles Health System (St. Charles Health System). Leads strategic initiatives that further these ideals.

Leads operational business planning, development, retention, and expansion efforts within span of control.

Develops an engaged team of caregivers by involving teams in organizational changes, creating assignments for staff, and providing effective coaching/mentoring. Designs and administers a succession planning process for each key position supervised.

Develops and actively leads a culture of consistent safety and regulatory compliance. Implement policies, work instructions, references, and job aides (i.e., systems) to ensure that the service maintains compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and laws.

Hires, directs, coaches, and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high-performance team that meets organizational and department goals.

Monitors and ensure all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.

Provides and oversees the team's delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.

Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Value Improvement Practice concepts and tools.

Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

Supports the Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.

EDUCATION:

Required: High School diploma or GED. Graduate of culinary school or equivalent experience.

Preferred: Bachelor's or master's degree in hospitality, Healthcare, Nutrition, or related field preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required: ServSafe certification within 90-days of employment (must have food handler card prior to employment if not ServSafe Certified). Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to travel to SCHS/SCMG worksites required.

Preferred: Applicable professional certifications including Lean/Six Sigma, American Culinary Federation (ACF), Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals (ANFP), ServSafe and/or similar.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Healthcare, Senior Living, or non-commercial food service experience. Minimum 3 years of experience in food or nutritional services in a complex organization with 2 years in a leadership role. Must have a working knowledge of food service routines, food safety, and food handling procedures. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access), database management, and document preparation.

Preferred: Experience with formal process improvement methods and demonstrated use of methods.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
