SCHOOL NURSE

Position Title: School Nurse

Department: Building

Reports To: District Coordinator / Building Principal

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

* Administer medication and treatment prescribed by physicians
* Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records and other health related data on all students requiring nursing intervention
* Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters
* Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness
* Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
* Implement board policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
* Conduct training for students related to handicap, health and hygiene
* Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools
* Assist staff members with necessary and required health/safety trainings
* Oversee vision/hearing screenings, BMI and nutrition for students
* Attend meetings and/or training as requested, required and/or needed
* Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met
* Display professionalism in appearance, attitude, and actions
* Follow code of ethics for educators

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: District RNs will supervise LPNs

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's or associate's degree in nursing.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

License from the State to practice as an RN or LPN.
