Job Summary

Provides Laboratory services to meet the needs of patients performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices. Directly supervises personnel and testing/reporting of Laboratory procedures. Assures compliance with applicable regulations regarding laboratory operations. Responsible for accuracy of patient results and the efficient operation, staffing and budget of section assigned. Works to establish standardized best practices for laboratory processes in assigned sections or laboratory for implementation across Prisma Health laboratories. Supports Medical Director of laboratory.

Accountabilities

* Proficient in knowledge of all testing procedures in section or lab supervised. Responsible for oversight of laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting testing results. Responsible for training and competency assessment of team members as required by accrediting agency. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and non-mandatory continuing education annually. 15%
* Effectively oversees processes to accurately maintains Quality Control (QC), Quality Monitors, proficiency testing, Analytical Measurement Range (AMR), equipment comparisons, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment as applicable. Reviews results and maintains appropriate documentation. Investigates and resolves technical problems that may lead to patient result issues.Abides by federal, state, and accrediting agency regulatory requirements affecting area. Manages vendor recalls or other corrective actions. Prepares written documentation and maintains department records, reports, and files as required.20%
* Complies with Policies and Procedures of Prisma Health. Willingly and effectively implements new procedures, products, techniques, methodologies for area assigned. Evaluates new equipment and reagents for technical performance. Supports Prisma Health system and customer service and quality initiatives in a positive and productive manner. Supports Laboratory Guidelines and Procedures. Writes and updates procedure manuals in accordance with established document control procedures in a timely manner. Validates Laboratory Information System and other systems reporting as needed. 10%
* Evaluates qualifications of potential employees; interviews and recommends for hire. Effectively supervises and schedules team members. Is responsible for accurate time and attendance records for team members. Initiates progressive disciplinary action as needed in collaboration with established chain of command. Conducts performance appraisals of team members. 15%
* Supports Prisma Health system and campus financial strategies in a positive and productive manner. Manages inventory, supplies and reagents. Manage departmental finances and forecast including processes to monitor operational and capital costs. Monitors financial variances in section or laboratory.Manages the purchase/requisition of laboratory supplies and equipment with Medical Director involvement.10%
* Employs good organizational talents and prioritizes tasks appropriately. Recognizes customer satisfaction issues and responds/escalates appropriately. Effectively coordinates and is responsible for and implements special projects and or tasks assigned. Attends meetings and partcipates on committees as needed. May serve as Administrator on call for facility.10%
* Positively responds to and implements change. Communicates effectively in person, by phone and in writing. Consults with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.Maintains open communication with other leaders, pathologists, and fellow team members. Uses positive and professional interpersonal skills to educate and support laboratory customers.10%
* Manages the environment of care by developing, implementing and monitoring processes to reduce and control environmental hazards and risks; preventing accidents and injuries and maintaining safe conditions for team members patients, staff and visitors. Maintains a safe and clean working environment and responds immediately to safety violations. 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or degree that meets ASCP or AMT certification requirements.

4 years - Clinical laboratory setting

In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, managers hired prior to March 2019 may have certification of MT(HEW).
