Licensed Practical Nurse-Occupational Health A Brief Overview Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides Employee/Occupational Health Services. Coordinates physical examinations and OJI process, requests lab test, updates employee files and performs other responsibilities to promote a safe and healthy work force. What you will do Provides occupational health services consistent with established departmental policies and procedures, nursing standards of practices, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, and patient safety practices ensuring compliance with workers compensation, OSHA, TNOSHA, HIPAA and other regulatory requirements. * Performs initial fit-test for new hires and annually for employees required to wear a respirator, in compliance with regulatory agencies. * Provides reporting of quality/performance review activities related to fit testing and issues in accordance with established guidelines. * Conducts staff in-service training for unit based fit-testers to ensure compliance, performance, competency and knowledge of fit testing. * Conducts health interviews/assessments. * Provides advice and guidance regarding healthcare and makes referrals to physician as needed. * Performs nursing and patient care, routine treatments, specimen collection, administration of medication upon physician#s order, and applies pain management measures. * Demonstrates knowledge and technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills to provide care, maintain clinical competency and meet age-specific patient needs within the unit. * Selects teaching aids such as training manuals/handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer basic training and other educational material. Performs employment physical assessments and screening tests, including detailed medical history, tuberculosis screening, vision (colorblind) screening, and arrangements for appropriate laboratory tests. Interprets and evaluates historical data, laboratory reports and screening tests for determination of current health status, vaccine needs, etc., in accordance with ROH Occupational Health policies and procedures. Advises employee appropriately. Administers annual tuberculosis testing for all employees. Conducts appropriate follow-up of positive results and ensures compliance with OSHA requirements. Provides post-exposure surveillance for employees exposed to undiagnosed tuberculosis, needle sticks, and other exposures to infectious disease. Reviews charts and information to determine if HIV testing is necessary. Counsels employees for pre-HIV testing as required in accordance with policy and federal law. Provides follow-up care in accordance with established protocol and in consultation with physician. Provides accurate documentation, maintains Occupational Health employee medical files, and ensures confidentiality of all employee information. Assess employees who become ill at work. Evaluates occupational health status and determines eligibility to return to work, refers to Emergency Department physician/Occupational Health Nurse Supervisor or sends employee home if appropriate. Provides all employee vaccinations (i.e., MMR, Hepatitis B, and influenza) as required by policy. Provides proper follow-up with employees to ensure compliance. Records all vaccination information in accordance with policy and federal law. Reviews all employee incidents (falls, burns, muscle strain, etc.) and performs proper follow-up as necessary. Completes the OSHA 300 log of occupational injuries. Posts reports as required by law. Refers worker#s compensation cases to the WC Case Manager, as necessary. Maintains OSHA 300 log and prepares other related reports regarding leaves of absence, incidents, vaccinations, etc. Facilitates drug screens as necessary by coordinating efforts with Talent Management, the lab and applicants/or employees. Identifies and reports unusual occupational health issues/trends. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve care. Supports and is involved in the organization#s Performance Improvement initiatives. Confers and works collaboratively with employees and hospital staff to coordinate/implement activities and provide proper counseling to employees regarding health issues in a customer responsive and courteous manner in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. Assists in the orientation and supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards. Prepares and maintains required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes. Works consistently within policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, and patient safety practices. Fluctuates work schedule as needed to provide services to employees working #off# shifts (evening, night, and weekends). Qualifications Graduate of an approved nursing school/program Required and Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adult patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure to work in the state of TN Upon Hire Required and BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and COHN - Certified Occupational Health Nurse Upon Hire Preferred Minimum 2 years experience patient care experience Required and Previous Occupational Health experience Preferred and Demonstrated knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations, Joint Commission, related to employee health issues normally acquired through previous employee health and clinical nursing experience. Qualifications
* Graduate of an approved nursing school/program Required and
