Shift: M-F | No Weekends | Four 8 hour shifts and one 6.5 hour shift between the hours of 8AM - 8PM

Responsibilities:

* Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
* Ensure that all samples are properly labeled so the lab assistants or technologists can process them.
* Photocopy reports and other materials as directed.
* Record all laboratory test results when cases are completed.
* Assist technologists and lab manager in research projects by compiling appropriate patient information and test results.
* Require the interpersonal ability to interact with physicians, hospital staff and students, and outside laboratories.
* File all patient charts after reports have been mailed.
* Answer telephones in the lab whenever possible and directs calls as necessary.
* Require technical ability necessary to operate a computer and accurately and appropriately bill patients on hospital's computerized billing system.
* Call referring physician or institution to obtain missing information on referral sheets (i.e. reason for referral, birth dates, billing info.).
* Retrieve specimens from labor and delivery, lab collection center, NICU, ER, and surgical pathology when called that samples are available.
* Log in all samples received by the cytogenetics laboratory on both log-in sheets in the department computer database (MEDGIS).
* File all amniotic fluid alpha-fetoprotein reports in the amniotic fluid patient charts for inclusion in final report.
* Maintain records of all patient information and creates patient charts.
* Require clerical ability necessary to maintain records, calculates appropriate statistics from lab data, and maintains a filing system.
* Accession all bone marrows and cancer bloods in the Co Path computer system.
* Mail all patient reports to referring physicians, institutions, and medical records.
* Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.1 year of clerical experience including personal computer.Completion of the competencies by the department/unit required.Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit required.Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span required.Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs.Provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures.
