JOB SUMMARY

Receives and interviews patients to collect and verify pertinent demographic, clinical and financial data. Obtains copies of relevant documents including Physician Orders and most recent insurance cards and where applicable verifies eligibility of insurance and obtains authorization for services as necessary. Collects required payments or makes necessary financial arrangements as appropriate for assigned work area. Performs order entry for tests as appropriate for assigned work area. Prepares and distributes appropriate reports, documents, and Patient Identification items and provides patient education in accordance with Federal and State Regulations, Payor requirements and HMC Policies and Procedures including but not limited to Patient Identification Bands, HMC Privacy Notice, Important Message from Medicare, HMC General Consent, Patient Rights, etc. Assists in working reports and worklists to correct errors or identify and resolve missing information. May perform Bed Control Functions including bed assignments, discharges, transfers, and change patient status transitions. Performs additional duties as assigned in a courteous and professional manner.

Registrar is trained to handle these responsibilities for 2 or more Patient Access Sub department as defined below:

* Hamilton Medical Center Main Admissions


* Emergency Care Department


* Turner Womens Center


* Hamilton Diagnostic Center


* Plaza Medical Imaging



Registrars will have 0-5 years experience in Admissions/Registration at Hamilton Medical Center and will be trained and expected to be proficient in at least 2 Patient Access Sub-departments within 1 year of hire..

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of a high school diploma required. College level courses preferred.

Licensure: Prefer CHAA Certification

Experience: Prior experience in same or similar position in a hospital or physician practice is desirable. Background in a medical related field preferred.

Skills: Basic typing and calculator skills required. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, Word and Excel. Basic medical terminology and knowledge of CPT4 and ICD9 coding.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Required to work monthly posted schedule which may include, evenings, nights and weekends.

Position may require pushing a cart to patient bedside and prolonged periods of standing while registering patients on a mobile work station or sitting at a desk interviewing patients and typing information into a computer terminal. Ability to lift, push, bend and stoop are necessary. Stressful situations dealing with life or death situations of both illness and trauma are frequent occurrences. Ability to complete registration process within required time frame. Requires analytical skill such as problem analysis and initial action/resolution within department guidelines.
