POSITION TITLE :Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Tech Diagnostic Imaging

REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Clinical Manager, Director

Ages of Patients Served - Provides patient care or has patient interaction to specific population of patients: (check all that apply) x Child: Birth to 12 Years x Adolescent: 13 to 18 Years x Adult: 19 to 64 Years x Older Adult: 65 Years & Above

I. JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, plans and performs all technical aspects of angiograms and other related invasive procedures.

* TELEPHONE SKILLS-Demonstrates hospital telephone etiquette by answering the phones promptly, courteously and identifying department and self.


* POLICIES/PROCEDURES- Is aware of and follows all hospital and department policies and procedures.


* TEAM WORK- Promotes positive co-worker relationships through team work and cooperation. Understands and supports the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with coworkers, physicians and students in a non-threatening manner. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests.


* PRODUCTIVITY -Maintains high productivity and performs efficiently regardless of whether the work volume is high or low. Appropriately prioritizes work activities. Responds to difficult situations with self-control and a positive attitude. Makes decisions independently and knows when to ask for assistance. Exercises good judgment and arrives at sound decisions.


* Documentation is accurate, complete and legible.


* Confirms patient identification by department protocol (patient name, date of birth, medical records, verbal communication, I.D. band, etc.)


* Assists physician with invasive procedures
* Reviews patient history and consults with radiologist if necessary (images and reports) Clarifies all physician orders.
* Documents exam completion and any medications given.
* Reviews hand-off form and fills out for return.
* Assures patient modesty and comfort.
* Tech introduces him/her self to patient and explains procedure.
* Practices universal protocol. Washes hands pre and post procedure.
* Never leaves patient unattended without safety strap or bedrails.
* .Assists in the training and guidance of new technologists.

17. Reviews and completes proper billing functions before turning in Cerner, START and COMPLETE exams accurately and timely before turning in to Radiologist and checking accuracy in PACS.

18.Review for contrasted exams and high radiation procedures. Discusses with radiologist and documents.

19. Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment within the department (i.e., x-ray, surgical, portable equipment).

20. Performs and/or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures according to approved department procedures manual.

21. Demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills and uses film markers properly. Prepares and positions patient for examination; obtains scout films and sets up trays.

22. Adjust technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation.

Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments.

24. Troubleshoots equipment, records malfunctions and alerts coordinator to insure timely service and repair.

25. Reviews M.D. order, patient questionnaire and requisition for physician notes and/or special instructions and reviews patient procedure with radiologist and patient if necessary, to assure safety and appropriateness

26. Reviews exposed films for proper positioning, technique and identification

27. Performs equipment visual inspections, selects appropriate equipment and applies immobilization devices as required.

28. Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.

29. Records pertinent patient information and completes all paperwork as required and assists in maintaining files

30. Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code and properly administers aid as needed

32. Follows facility policy & procedure when performing invasive procedures, including sterile technique, documented time out process, completed patient consent form and proper labeling of specimens

33. Willingly performs other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required (i.e., transport, clerical).
