Position Summary
The Office of Student Engagement provides Stonehill students with transformative experiences that foster social interaction, self-exploration, student engagement, and leadership development. In turn, students will create and participate in a welcoming, supportive, and engaging environment that enriches the academic, social, and personal experience of all students.
Our goal is to provide quality services and programs for our students that will contribute to their academic and co-curricular successes by focusing on four key areas:
* Orientation and first-year experiences
* Student organizations and governance
* Leadership and professional development
* Campus-wide programming
We hope that these areas will facilitate active student participation in co-curricular activities and leadership while also promoting learning, building community, and empowering students.
This graduate assistant will gain experience and knowledge in student affairs and higher education, particularly in the following areas: event advising, planning, and execution; student organization management; and new student orientation. Under the direct supervision of the Director and in collaboration with the Associate Director and Coordinator, the Graduate Assistant will be able to augment what they are learning in the classroom with significant hands-on experience working with the Office of Student Engagement, colleagues in Student Affairs, and Stonehill students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Hours of Work
The Office is seeking a graduate student who can commit to 20 hours a week-this includes time spent both in the office and at events. There is flexibility with scheduling and some weekend and evening hours are required. Ideal candidates will commit to 10 months; the position may be renewed for an additional appointment based on job performance and mutual acceptance.
Student Organizations & Club Management
* Assist in developing and improving student organization processes, including creation and management of new organizations, training for club leaders, tools for communication, assessment, and advisor support.
* Serve as a resource for student organizations in planning events.
* Coordinate the Spring Activities Fair.
* Ensure that all campus and student events are in Guidebook.
* Develop and present 1-2 workshops per semester.
Late Night Programming
* Benchmark, create and implement a late-night programming model/series, including the coordination of some events.
* Provide appropriate event coverage for late-night programs, as needed.
* Serve as a member of the Alcohol and Other Drugs committee, as needed.
Major Campus Programs
* Support in the coordination and implementation of Family Weekend.
* Support in the coordination and implementation of the Commencement Eve Celebration.
New Student Orientation
* Assist in the operation and logistics of Fall Welcome Week.
* Assist in the selection process of the Orientation student Core Team and Orientation Leaders.
* Support and assist in spring Orientation Leader training.
* Assist in the development of the Orientation program, materials, and assessment.
Staff Member
* Attend staff meetings and other meetings, as assigned; work nights and weekends, as required.
* Support and attend large-scale events sponsored by the Office and Student Government Association.
* Take part in trainings, retreats, and planning sessions, as needed.
* Serve as a leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and work to advance the College's mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
* Partner with other Student Affairs Offices and seek out opportunities to work with others.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
A Bachelor's Degree with experience or interest in campus/student event management, leadership development, and student advisement is required. Currently enrolled in a Master's Program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, Social Work, or related fields is required.
Familiarity with event planning/ programming is preferred. In addition, the successful candidate must be dependable and have excellent interpersonal communication (written, oral, and electronic) skills. Candidate must demonstrate integrity, initiative, openness, teamwork, and a positive attitude. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to higher education, student development, and diversity/inclusion.
