The College of Agriculture provides programs and services to improve the educational and socio-economic well-being of students, families, and communities-focusing on excellence through integrated instruction, research and extension programs.

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences' (Human Ecology's) programs and functions support the University's mission by welcoming and extending department resources to all who strive for academic excellence, whatever their national, racial, ethnic or religious affiliation. The Department, in conjunction with the University, is ultimately dedicated to the promotion of knowledgeable, perceptive, and humane citizens secure in their self-awareness, equipped for personal fulfillment, sensitive to the needs of others, and committed to assuming productive roles in a challenging and ever-changing global society. Department programs and courses provide particular support for the University's mission and principles concerned with the advancement of scholarship in the disciplines of College of Agriculture to better serve its clients through the enhancement and efficiency of the Family and Consumer Sciences Program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

80% - Classroom Instruction:

* Instructional hours assigned in accordance with SACS instructional standards.

10% - Scholarly Activity:

* Scholarly work takes various forms. However, a faculty member's effectiveness can be demonstrated by such achievements as publications in learned journals, fine arts creations, artistic performances, presentation of the results of original research, etc. The quality of the individual's scholarly approach, capacity for independent thought, originality and research output must be considered.

10% - Service:

* Service functions may be those performed for the University, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and regional, national and international groups. Service may include activities such as participation in committee work, carrying out administrative assignments, contributions to the improvement of faculty and student life, community work, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

* The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing a comprehensive academic workload, encompassing 12 credit hours per semester, within the disciplines of Family Science, Family

Studies, and/or Human Development. A graduate degree in any of these fields is mandatory alongside a Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences, Family Studies, Family Science, Human

Development, or closely related fields, conferred by an accredited institution prior to the date of hire. ABD candidates will be considered.*

* Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and/or Competencies Required:
* Knowledge of a subject/field including current developments in a teaching discipline housed in the department.

Abilities:

* To develop effective curriculum materials;
* Organize and effectively present course work;
* Elicit student interest;
* Contribute generally to student academic progress in a significant way.

Skills:

* Manage and organize the classroom environment;
* Develop and implement assessment activities.
* Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.

Record of research, publication, and/or scholarly activity as appropriate to the discipline preferred.
