The Electrician is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all components of the primary and secondary electrical distribution systems in the Hospital and all other buildings on the Hospital's campus; the monitoring and maintenance of all designated non-clinical equipment. Utmost emphasis is placed on system and equipment safety and reliability. Monitoring and maintenance of all components of electrical distribution systems to ensure proper operation and reliability.

* Monitor operation of the Hospital's primary electrical distribution system. Conduct routine maintenance tasks and perform or direct any repairs required to ensure proper system operation. Proper maintenance should ensure no more than 2 component faults occur during the year.
* Monitor the operation of the Hospital's secondary electrical distribution system. Perform all routine maintenance required and make repairs as required to ensure proper operation. Proper maintenance ensures no more than 2 component faults, excluding switches and receptacles, occur during the year. Results are documented in the daily trouble call and preventative maintenance logs.
* Monitor and maintain the operation of the electrical systems in all buildings on the Hospital campus to ensure their reliable performance. Proper maintenance should ensure that no more than 4 component failures occur during the year, excluding switches and receptacles.
* Monitor and maintain all aspects of the hospital's lighting system to ensure appropriate lighting levels. Particular emphases are placed on all components of Life Safety and Emergency designated lighting.
* Ensure that all devices, switches, receptacles, equipment disconnects, and IPC's, are safe and in good condition to minimize shock hazard. Performance is documented through trouble call and preventative maintenance logs. Minimum P.M. completion rate of 90% is required annually.
* Response to all complaints of electrical nature with emphasis on minimizing equipment down time or electrical outage and ensuring circuit components are operating properly.
* Assess the nature of each complaint to ensure all calls are handled in a timely manner. Specific emphasis is placed on all calls resulting from a hazardous condition. No more than 2 legitimate complaints of inappropriate response time should be received in a quarter. Perform repairs necessary to return equipment or systems to normal and safe operation.
* Ensure that, whenever prompt correction cannot be made, all work sites and equipment are marked and tagged to minimize unsafe conditions. There are no exceptions to this specification.
* Maintenance and repair of all electrically powered non-clinical equipment as prescribed in NFPA and TJC requirements on a regular basis. Results of all inspections to be recorded in preventative maintenance logs. At least 90% of all equipment must be maintained current by inspection
* Perform incoming electrical inspections on all authorized non-clinical equipment prior to its being put into use. Tag each item with the results of the inspection in accordance with Facilities standard operating procedure.
* Make or direct repairs necessary to ensure continued safe equipment operation. No more than 1 valid complaint regarding excessive equipment down time should occur per quarter.
* Perform assigned preventative maintenance tasks with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness. Department policy dictates that all weekly and bi-weekly tasks, and at least 90% of tasks issued on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual tasks cycle, are to be completed as reviewed on a monthly basis by the Director of Facilities.
* Make or direct changes to the electrical systems or circuits to enhance or modify system operation or configuration to meet changing demands on those systems as spaces are redesigned or equipment is added.
* Perform work assigned through the Facilities work order system with emphasis on conscientious and timely completion. Department policy dictates that at least 80% of Work Orders be completed as reviewed on a monthly basis by the Director of Facilities.
* Coordinate with other departments and facilities shops to expedite project completion. Investigate reasons for delay and take corrective action. No more than 5 legitimate complaints of inappropriate time delay should be received in 1 year.
* Respond, as required, to emergencies in order to minimize the threat of injury or damage to the Hospital or its occupants.
* Respond to Fire Drills as part of the Hospital's fire response team as prescribed by the facilities S.O.P. manual. There are no exceptions to this standard.
* Respond during off-hours to calls regarding electrical equipment or system failure. If the Electrician is located he is expected to respond without exception as observed by the Director of Facilities.
* Become familiar with tasks and responsibilities as prescribed by the Facilities department and the Hospital Emergency Response Standard Procedures, including the use of Faulkner 411 to locate and review facilities and Hospital policies.
* Maintain an adequate inventory of repair and replacement stock to minimize delays and maximize electrical systems reliability with respect to patient and staff safety.
* Maintain a current list of vendors. Demonstrate to the Director of Facilities an on-going program to ensure best pricing and availability.
* Recommend and order, through the Director of Facilities, repair and replacement with emphasis on hard to locate items. No more than 2 extended equipment downtimes should occur during the year as a result of lack of available parts or service.
* Investigate any delays in shipment of ordered stock without awaiting direction from the Director of Facilities.

* Minimum of a high school education is required.
* A valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Professional Licensure, Electricians License, as a Journeyman Electrician is required.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience as an Electrician required; prior experience in a hospital or healthcare facility preferred.
* Able to read and write in English to be able to effectively and safely communicate with staff, vendors, patients, and visitors.
* Capable of lifting 75 pounds from ground elevation to shoulder height elevation.
* May required to work outdoors at anytime during the year, including all four seasonal extremes.
