ISRC Behavior Specialist QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Social Work, School Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
  • PEL w/ School Social Worker or Psychologist or School Counsellor or IDFPR License in one of these fields.
  • Experience working with children with behavior, emotional, and or mental health challenges.
  • Knowledge of developments/practices in the field of behavior intervention.
  • Knowledgeable in the fields of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
  • Knowledgeable about statewide systems and services for children with mental health challenges.
  • Experience with students with visual impaiments preferred.

REPORTS TO: ISRC Director

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate and assist local school personnel, students, and families in developing service plans that address the specific needs of students including, but not limited to, evaluations, crisis intervention and behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide services to educators and families that include:
    • Responding to referrals.
    • Providing coaching and technical assistance.
    • Conducting on-site observations and assisting in the development of individual student action plans.
    • Participating in student review meetings.
  • Provide support and training to parents of students who are visually impairedand who exhibit behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges
  • Collect data related to program objectives:
    • Student behavioral progress in both school and home environments.
    • Reduction in suspension and expulsion rates.
    • Increase in placements in least restrictive environments.
    • Reduction in family stressors.
  • Assist ISRC Director in the completion of grant performance measures including:
    • Contribute to the expansion of resources in the VI online/digital directory of services and resources to support parents and educators including mental health resources and a profile of assessment instruments applicable to these populations.
    • Distribution and assimilation of data from screening instruments.
    • Coordination and implementation of VI Behavior Support Team trainings and professional growth opportunities.
    • Development and provision of training opportunities for educators, families and service providers.
    • Collection and aggregation of data via evaluations for training sessions.
    • Development of online training modules.
    • Completion of home and/or school visits to provide behavior coaching and technical assistance.
    • Oversight of the resource lending library of resource materials available for parents and educators.
    • Participate in ISRC leadership meetings and assist in identifying gaps in services.
    • Contribute content to printed and/or digital newsletters, and printed and/or digital parent newsletters.
    • Collection and aggregation of data for students served.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support NSSEO policy, NSSEO and governing board goals and objectives, and The School Code of Illinois

EVALUATION: Annually according to NSSEO policy.
