JOB SUMMARY

The Litigation Paralegal, Risk Management Specialist will support the in-house legal attorneys of Hamilton Health Care System, Inc., and the Risk Management Program. This position may also provide support and assistance to the Director, Corporate Compliance and the Risk Management Coordinator on an as-available and as-requested basis. This position will interface with Hamilton staff members and providers of all levels and must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position is responsible for internally administering the document production and discovery process for claims and litigation and for working with outside counsel to coordinate depositions and interviews. This position will also internally administer the litigation hold process across the organization. This position will be required to prepare initial drafts of legal documents, including contracts, and correspondence for review and revision by in-house attorneys and will perform preliminary research on legal issues. This position is also responsible for maintaining Hamilton's loss run for claims and for preparing initial drafts of Notices of Claims.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree required.

Licensure: None required, but see Certification/Experience below.

Certification/Experience:A paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved school required with a minimum of five (5) years' experience as a paralegal required with health care, insurance, litigation, or in-house corporate experience preferred.

Skills: Complete understanding of complex legal terminology required. High proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Microsoft Outlook calendar management required. High level of organizational skills required as this role must be able to handle a high degree of detail and manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously. High emphasis placed on confidentiality and discretion. Excellent research, communication, and writing skills are required. Ability to work with all levels of staff, using tact and diplomacy and a positive attitude to facilitate successful partnerships. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to work independently with some supervision and guidance.

Works in a typical office environment and moves throughout the System and facilities subject to the hazards of that environment. Requires flexible schedule to meet deadlines.

Physical and Mental Effort: Requires standing, walking, and extensive sitting. Requires hearing and vision corrected to normal range. Requires working under sometimes stressful conditions and subject to working irregular hours including overtime and weekends.
