POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Applications Manager, the Epic Clinical Specialist will work with users of Craig's electronic medical record, and all other departments or groups, system-wide, in problem-solving issues related to the electronic medical record. Participates in planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, maintenance and evaluation of existing or new functionality related to the electronic medical record. Utilizes knowledge of clinical workflows to partner with senior informatics staff to assess, plan, implement/develop, monitor and maintain information system applications in partnership with health care providers to achieve organizational goals.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Experience as a clinician in a hospital setting is strongly preferred. An Epic certification is preferred. Clinical license or certification in healthcare discipline preferred. Epic Certification is required within six months of start date.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; BBA, MIS or BS in Computer Science preferred.
  • Experience: 2-3 years working in a healthcare discipline, with at least one year of experience preferred with the following disciplines: project management, process improvement/development, nursing informatics.
  • Skills & Abilities: Excellent organization and customer service skills. Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel. Basic team-building, conflict resolution, and communication skills, both verbal and written required. Ability to determine or interpret work procedures for a group of workers, maintaining harmonious relations among them and promoting efficiency. Work collaboratively with other departments and physicians. Able to respond to crises and emergency situations appropriately. Ability to use professional judgment to identify areas for improvement and participate in development of quality initiatives. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Rudimentary analytical, problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills. Knowledge of application development life cycle methodology concepts. Working knowledge of common office applications, utilities, and tools. An understanding of clinical and business processes, applications and interactions. Query/report writing, and content management knowledge. Fundamental customer-oriented people skills. Self-motivated and effectively working independently and in a team environment. Basic ability to communicate effectively with senior management. Ability to partner with team members in reviewing complex solution development. Develop and maintain productive interpersonal relationships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Utilize the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure the electronic medical record are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.
  • Work closely with all clinical departments to know all their workflows and cross departmental handoffs.
  • Serve as a resource person for the daily operational issues of the clinical system's functions as a liaison for electronic medical record functionality issues across the system.
  • Gather detailed requirements from end users and their needs within informatics solutions.
  • Document clinical IT project objectives, timelines, and deliverables that support clinical goals in collaboration with clinical and IT staff and management.
  • Pro-actively communicate project expectations and progression to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion throughout the life-cycle of each project.
  • Participate in planning, design, development, testing, education and implementation of the EHR as it pertains to clinical practice
  • Work on assigned tasks providing follow-up of requests and remediation of known issues.
  • Provide project management of optimization of EHR changes and optimizations.
  • Participate in efforts towards maintaining components of the automated EHR, including revisions, testing and integration of changes in components of the EHR.
  • Provide proactive user support of the EHR including, but not limited to, training and education.
  • Assist in evaluation and development of training and in-service programs.
  • Other assigned duties as directed by the Applications Manager.

Salary Range: $35.17 - $50.64
