THIS IS A TEMPORARY NON-CIVIL SERVICE NON-UNION POSITION NOT TO EXCEED 866 WORK HOURS IN THE YEAR.
MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to six months' general office work experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
None
Under immediate to general supervision: performs a variety of recurring clerical, accounting, or secretarial related tasks of a general nature within a City Department; operates one or more types of office equipment in conjunction with the work; performs related work as required.
(Duties listed are representative of the types of tasks and functions performed by positions of this class of work. Percentage of time and rank of importance of duties are not listed since both will vary by position and work location).
Greets the public in person or by phone; provides routine information or standard documents relative to the purpose and functions of the department, on request; refers the public to appropriate departmental staff on more involved matters.
Receives payments for one or more City services or activities; issues receipts for monies received; maintains a cash drawer, balances daily cash, maintains related file documents; counts, sorts and packages change by denomination.
Types from rough drafts, clear copy, or dictating equipment a variety of standard forms, letters, memoranda, reports, or requisitions; assembles printed or duplicated materials; files or retrieves a variety of materials, as directed.
Verifies the accuracy of figures or information on one or more types of source documents; summarizes source documents and prepares itemized lists; performs routine mathematical computations; makes adjustments or corrections to documents.
Files and retrieves data in alphabetical, chronological, numerical, and subject matter; files according to an established filing system. Sorts and processes mail and distribution materials; operates office machines and equipment associated with the work.
Maintains files and records; and prepares documents requiring knowledge of regulatory requirements, content of documents, and processing requirements; prepares renewal or reminder notices; receives applications for licenses or permits on regulated items or businesses; issues licenses, warrants, permits, or related documents, indexes licenses, warrants, permits, or related documents for easy reference; receives cash and issues receipts.
Requires regular and reliable attendance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures associated with the position. Ability to meet and deal with the public in a pleasant and courteous manner; to type at an acceptable level of proficiency, as required by the position; to perform the four basic arithmetic processes; to maintain records accurately; to understand and follow oral and written instructions or procedures; to operate assigned office equipment, efficiently and effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer terminal for extended periods of time or while standing for a period of time. Frequently needs to move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constant use of both hands in reaching/ handling/grasping/fingering while performing duties operating on computers. Occasional heavy work includes lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs and ladders while maintaining balance. Constant use of all senses including feeling/talking/hearing/seeing while performing duties and while communicating with co-workers, general public and completing all tasks as assigned. Must be able to distinguish color and maintain long-term and short-term memory. May work in remote locations or in noisy work area. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
