JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Behavior Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:

Temporary postion through June 30, 2024

Bachelor's degree in education, special education; or social sciences, Master's Degree preferred.
Post-baccalaureate training in applied behavior analysis or comparable field preferred.
Specialized training and/or demonstrated expertise in school-based applied behavior analysis.
Experience in conducting comprehensive formal and informal functional behavior assessments.
Experience working with special education populations.
Training in crisis management preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board deems appropriate and acceptable under state law.

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services
JOB GOAL: To support staff, administration, and other personnel with the acquisition of desired learning and performance behaviors through direct observation, data collection, data analysis, ongoing progress monitoring, functional behavioral assessments, research based interventions, consultation and collaboration, staff and parent training, and crisis management.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops comprehensive behavior protocols, for both learning and performance, utilizing the best current practice methodologies in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
Completes accurately all requisite paperwork (attendance and reports) in a timely fashion and in approved formats.
Communicates effectively and efficiently to families, professionals, and ancillary service providers in reference to principles of A.B.A. and individual applications.
Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments and writes comprehensive reports.
Attends IEP and educational planning meetings to provide input on the appropriate use of behavioral procedures for certain students.
Possess skills in providing progress monitoring and in-classroom consultation to staff.
Evaluates and analyzes individual student's comprehensive behavior need.
Addresses and implements behavior strategies in accordance with school law, state regulations, school board policy, and procedures, and current best practices.
Creates, implements, and monitors accurate data collection formats for protocol analysis and modification purposes.
Coordinates implementation and monitoring of behavior protocols across settings, time, and providers.
Trains, supports, and implements crisis training protocols and procedures in accordance with state and district policies.
Collaborates with various professionals and non-professionals in the development, implementation and maintenance of individual and/or group behavior support plans.

Training:
Trains staff on how to implement individual behavioral and instructional protocols pertinent to the needs of students.
Develops and disseminates professional development in-services.
Provides group parent/family training and individual parent/family training on as needed basis.
Offers embedded professional development by modeling behavior management and instructional strategies based on the principals of ABA on a routine basis in the classroom setting.

Other:
Demonstrates interest, effort, and continued professional growth as related to the field of applied behavior analysis.
Provides for the care and proper use of school property and maintains current inventories of materials/resources.
Regards personal information concerning students or families as confidential and utilizes such information only as an aide in helping the student to attain appropriate educational goals.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Program Administrator or designee.

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Annual Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey State law and the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of certified staff which includes specified performance standards in the evaluation model approved by the Board of Education.
