                             CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

 

CLASSIFICATION TITLE:  CASHIER - RECREATION      

 

 

 

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

 

The purpose of this classification is to perform clerical/cashiering work functions associated with processing cash receipts from citizens utilizing city recreational services, goods, and facilities.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

 

*          Performs customer service functions; provides assistance and information related to recreational programs, events, facilities, fees, procedures, or other issues; responds to routine questions or complaints; initiates problem resolution.
*          Computes bills for recreational services, goods, or facilities; charges customers accordingly.
*          Collects cash in payment of recreational services, goods/equipment, facility rental fees, or other fees/services; makes change for cash payments; issues tickets or goods to customers; issues receipts.
*          Records amounts received; prepares reports of cash transactions; prepares and balances cash and receipts report to document money received; and makes deposits of daily revenues at the bank.
*          Operates a cash register; performs basic maintenance such as replacing paper tape and clearing jams.
*          Reads and records totals shown on cash register tape; verifies totals against cash on hand.
*          Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, bills, receipts, or other documents manually or via computer or typewriter.
*          Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, tickets, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
*          Maintains files/records of departmental activities.
*          Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service or assistance.
*          Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, officials, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; and informs supervisors of rentals or any other events at the pool.
*          Determines age of patrons before admitting patrons to facilities as appropriate; and communicates and enforces facility rules regarding admittance to the swimming facility.
*          At the golf course, communicate the available services, fees and course rules to the patrons. 
*          Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, officials, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; and informs supervisors of rentals or any other events at the golf course.
*          Maintains regular and predictable in person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson as required.
*          Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City's Drug and Alcohol policy.

 

 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

 

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Performs related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

5 to 11 months previous experience and/or training involving cashiering; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Data Utilization:  Requires the ability to calculate and/or tabulate data. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations. 

Human Interaction:  Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well established policies, procedures and standards.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:  Requires the ability to start, stop, operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.  

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude:  Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Functional Reasoning:  Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.  Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning:  Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

 

 

 

ADA COMPLIANCE

 

Physical Ability:  Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Sensory Requirements:  Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals.  Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors:  Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, humidity, rain, and temperature and noise extremes.
