Job Description

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. The Senior Financial Aid Counselor and Compliance Specialist is a full time benefited exempt position with the Office of Financial Aid. This position will provide excellent financial aid counseling to incoming and continuing students and their families, support the Associate Director of Financial Aid and review policies, procedures ensuring regulatory compliance with all Federal, State and Institutional Student Aid Programs.

Essential Functions

This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance.

1. Create and revise accurate Financial Aid (FA) Estimates for prospective, first-time, undergraduate students and their families.

2. Work with the admissions team to distribute FA Estimates to prospective students and their families and assist those students and their families with finding a way to cover University costs.

3. Counsel and provide regular outreach to all undergraduate students and families regarding their financial aid and related processes via emails, phone calls, and Mongoose.

4. Work with admissions to follow the enrollment cycle in order to ensure the financial aid process is completed for fall and spring starts prior to new students sitting in class.

5. Monitor the Accounts Receivables report and help current students with options to cover balances due.

6. Participate in admissions events, such as but not limited to: Preview Days, Scholarship Days, New Student Registration, New Student Orientation etc.

7. Provide excellent customer service to the entire UF community on behalf of the Office of Financial Aid, which includes but is not limited to: conveying accurate descriptions of federal, state, and institutional policies; presenting financial aid and financial literacy information in classrooms or workshops; assist with retention of at-risk through counseling and communicating issues to Director.

8. Maintain a membership to a local, regional or national Financial Aid Organization and keep up-to-date on all FSA regulations.

9. Researches and remains current on the financial aid regulatory environment, assessing their impact, and keeping stakeholders informed

10. Routinely review documents and conduct quality checks while verifying compliance and regulatory mandates are met successfully

11. Communicate with Institutional Research to assist in the maintenance and compliance of grants awarded in the Office of Financial Aid.

12. Assist in the review of UF policies and procedures in regards to processes involving the Office of Financial Aid

13. Provide support in federal reconciliation files (PELL, TEACH, Direct Loans, etc.)

14. Perform all other duties as appropriate for the position.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities of office staff and students.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional remote office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time 12-month position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some occasional night and weekend hours are required to provide support events for prospective students, new student registration, outreach activities, and move-in weekend in August.

Travel

Travel to campus office is required. A valid US Drivers' license with a safe driving record is required.

Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelors degree.

2. One year of experience in Financial Aid or equivalent.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Experience in compliance and communications

2. Financial aid experience desirable and additional years of related experience.

3. Experience and some understanding of grant writing and developing policy and procedures
